Can't get Sky TV due to lack of reception! Any Options?

    Hi,

I've moved house recently and my current supplier is UPC - they're dreadful, poor UI, the box is very slow to react, it's forever crashing, there's no 'red' button etc... Having come from Sky I want to go straight back.

However I ordered Sky TV but the engineer couldn't get a signal due to a large amount of trees and a house between my house and the Astra Satellite. So unfortunately he went home and I've no Sky TV.

    So I'm just wondering:

Have I any other options to get sky? Maybe somebody knows an independent installer who may put in more effort? Maybe there's a higher spec Satellite dish?

I'm renting and have permission to get Sky installed, however I won't be allowed to do anything like putting a pole up 50m away etc, I can only use the walls of the house.

    And slightly off topic.....

Why is the picture quality so poor with UPC in comparison to Sky? I'm talking about SD here too, I've never seen a HD UPC picture. Is it due to Satellite just being a better technology than cable or that UPC just don't care? I'm seeing huge pixelation while watching UPC on the same tv that I was watching Sky on with no pixelation.

    Thanks a mill.

    .

Re UPC. Looks like you have an old box and bad cable. I suffered pixelation for a while a few years ago due to damaged cable about 50m from the house. I have no slow navigation issues with the box and no crashes (never had a crash in all the years).

The red button thing, well it's just not on UPC.

This was my point about an independent installer maybe putting in more effort. I asked the Sky installer to try the chimney and he said "Sky don't like us using the chimney and I can tell that it won't work anyway." He didn't try it though!

Thanks, if I can't get Sky (and it seems I can't) I'll quiz UPC on this.

Contact an independent installer-they are more flexible and helpful when it comes to installs.Had a similar incident couple of years ago when the 'official' sky installer couldn't get a signal and only brought a short ladder(shows how professional he was) He told the person there was no hope to get sky-I got a local installer to do the job-Dish on chimney to avoid the trees and no problems since.

Thanks for the info, I've googled "Sky Installers" and emailed two of them so waiting for an answer. Can anybody recommend a good installer they've worked with before? I live in Leixlip so preferably from the Dublin, Kildare and Meath areas.

    Thanks again.
