Hi i was putting together a quick startup list of sites and services that can benefit people when setting up websites and monitoring their brand and keywords. Have a small list at the moment if people want to add to it it might help people.

    Business promotion

must read the rules first VERY IMPORTANT! You must add the three tags.

Approach blog sites that are relevant to your market and get them to blog about your business.

    • Google Alerts – Set up free email alerts on the latest Google results (news, web, etc) for your chosen keywords.

    • Google Realtime Search is a handy tool which can help to find the origins of a story online. You simply type in the keywords from the story or headline and set the timeframe you want to look at.

    • Twitter Search – ‘Does what it says on the tin’ and allows you to see what’s being said about you or your brand on Twitter at any time.

    • Google Blog Search – Sometimes news/relevant comments appear in blog search results but might not appear in Google News searches or in the main index. Google Blog Search allows you to scan the blogosphere for mentions of your brand/company.

    • RSS Feeds – Subscribe to relevant sites and keep up to date with their latest articles by using a tool such as Google Reader.

    • Social Mention – Receive free daily email alerts of your brand, company, marketing campaign, or on a developing news story or a competitor

    • Addict-o-matic – Allows you to create a custom page on any topic/keywords. Addict-o-matic gathers information from across web pages and social media platforms and when you visit the Addict-o-matic page you get all the relevant results for your brand/keywords.

•Google Webmaster tools- xml site map submission etc. (www.google.com/webmasters/)

•Google Local set up - Free setup for business to get listed on Google Local Business

•Google Analytics setup - Monitor your website statistics.

•Search Engine submission - Google, Bing, Yahoo.

•Social oomph (set up twitter auto follow & twitter keyword alerts.(http://www.socialoomph.com/)

    •Email campaigns(http://www.mailchimp.com/) (http://www.aweber.com/) (http://www.spinnakerpro.com/) (http://www.constantcontact.com)

    Long term

Blog set up. Set up a wordpress blog and customise it to look like your site, if you are unsure how to do this your web developer can do it although its best to ask them to include it in the build initially. (add blog to technorati)

SEO-(Search engine optimization) read up about how it can work for you. If it is too complex then look at business that can do it for you.
This site is a good start(http://tools.seobook.com/)

    • Google adwords campaign

    Social Media campaign

    • Twitter
    • Facebook fan page
Blog posting *Add content to social networking and social bookmark sites.

    Could almost become a ..

'Creating an online presence' How to ..

It amazes me how often small and micro-businesses miss the chance to promote themselves effectively online - even if it is something as obvious as adding your business to the Google Local Directory.
