Is the 2nd lead from the UPC wallbox good for anything - broadband?

I have one of the modern white UPC wall boxes, it was installed about a year ago. I've given up on the FM radio signal as the quality wasn't great so I get the digital radio through the DVR+ box.

If I sign up for UPC Broadband, can I get the broadband signal from the second co-ax lead or do I have to split the existing TV lead into TV and broadband using a splitter? If the answer is 'yes' to this question, does the second lead have any use apart from the old FM stations?

    Yes you get a splitter.

The FM connection really serves no purpose anymore.
Radio stations are in Digital from the set-top box and FM is not being maintained anymore.

The Digital Radio channels are not encrypted but I am not sure if you can use something else to listen to them.
All UPC boxes have a L and R jack and the HD box has an Optical out plus a HDMI out so you can hook up a decent sound system to listen to the radio channels.

Here are the digital radio channels on UPC.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_channels_on_UPC_Ireland#Radio_-_900s

Thanks, I have the audio out from both the TV and the UPC box connected to my amp. so I can already listen to the digital radio stations through my sound system.

On the splitter for TV and Broadband, is there any particular type I need, apart from the obvious physical connectivity? Would either of these do the job...

The 2nd one is better quality I am sure UPC will give you one if you ask they use high quality screw in metal ones.

Edit if you get broadband UPC will give you the splitter.

Not if you do self-install they won't, one of the downsides of DIY! It's not documented in any of the FAQs on the UPC website but if you download the manual for the Cisco modem it's quite clear that the splitter is needed but it's not listed in the kit that ships with the self-install option.

You say 'TV' - was the self-install that you ordered just a digital TV box or did you order broadband?

You'd only need the splitter when you either already have TV and are ordering Broadband or you are a new customer and you order both TV and Broadband.

I already had broadband and ordered the TV afterwards as a self install.
