Woke up this morning to find the heating wasnt working  and had tripped the elcb. Found water on the P.C.B. and it looked like water had been getting at it over a long period. Took it out cleaned it up and dryed it out eventually got it working but while i was working on it i had downloaded the manual and drawings for the boiler(Glowworm micron 70ff) and discovered the permanent live and the switched live were mixed up.

House is about 5 years old and boilers given a fair bit of trouble since we moved in. had to get pump and valves replaced and new valves are leaking too

Couple of Questions you's might be able to awnser for me

Could these lives being mixed up have caused the boiler to leak? now that i've reversed them the boiler seems to shutdown in a sequence where before once the heating went off the boiler/pump stopped immediately.

Boiler has been serviced twice, should the service engineer's not have picked up on this?

If the P.C.B. packs in have i any comeback with the builder or is it too late?

Wiring diagram is on page 24

thanks in advance for any help

To start with, the pump should be on constantly from when you switch your heating on inside the house, until you turn it off. The boiler will cycle on and off depending on the water temp, but the way you've worded it has confused me slightly.

Can you explain again how the units were wired?

Where exactly are the leaks coming from?

There is a 4 core flex feeding the boiler, there are 2 live's Lp (permanent live) and Ls (swiched live). The way my boiler was wired the permanent live was going to Ls and the switched live was going to Lp. now that i have corrected this the boiler seems to shut down properly taking about 5 seconds to shutdown and the pump runs for a couple of mins, before everything stopped immidiately.

As for the leaks im not sure exactly where its coming from.

Wondering if the way it was wired may have resulted in the water getting inside. read in the manual there was a built in frost protection but that would not have worked the way it was wired. could this have been where the water came from it was about -9c outside the night it went and the boiler is right beside an external wall.

Q.Could these lives being mixed up have caused the boiler to leak? now that i've reversed them the boiler seems to shutdown in a sequence where before once the heating went off the boiler/pump stopped immediately.

    NOT DIRECTLY BUT:
the PL is need for pump over run. This allows the heatexhanger to dissipate any excess heat and reduce wear and tear.

On some boilers: PL is need for running the pump if the boiler has been in standby/ not run for long period. This stops the pump siezing and any sludge/debris settling in the boiler.

IF THE ABOVE TWO ISSUE BECAME A PROBLEM THE BOILER HEAT EXHANGER WOULD BE DAMAGED AND POSSIBLE OVER PRESSURISE CAUSE LEAKS.

    As you also stated:
PL need for frost protection is internal pipework gets near freezing.

    Q. Boiler has been serviced twice, should the service engineer's not have picked up on this?

YES. Any fully competent engineer should be checking for this. ( also requirement for RGII paperwork).
If fault found he should have advised you of any implicatrions and told you to rectify it.

If the P.C.B. packs in have i any comeback with the builder or is it too late?

Good luck!! In my experience most Builders do not "stand by" issues with boilers. He will probably blame the electrician or plumber...
FYI Boilers/ heating systems do come under "Part L" Building Regulation.
Also the installation did not conform to manufacturers instruction.

You do have a case but you probably wont win.:(
