Any common faults or likely causes for rear window wiper to stop working on a 2001 1.0L Nissan Micra?

The fuse or relay may have blown, start there first. The wipers might have been operated whilst frozen, damaging the wiper linkages.

    Thanks Hal1

Problem existed before the snow/ice arrived but thanks for responding. It's my sister's car so I will look at it soon as she needs to take it for NCT....

The rear washer is functional - works!

When I turn on the switch I hear a momentary switching sound like a relay contact? This would leave me to believe that there is power going to the motor and perhaps the motor is blown?

    Any suggestions?

Narrowed the fault down to an internal problem in the wiring loom on rhs where there's a rubber boot protecing it as the cable passes from door into back of car.

Have not removed it as yet. The wiper motor is "good" but the reg plate lights do not work currently.

Anyone know if this loom can be purchased rather than a few hrs trying to fix original one?

    Thanks.

Its cheaper and probably easier to repair the wiring, if thats the problem. Even if the relay is clicking it could still be a fuse.

The broken wire is in the rubber boot on the right at the hinge, its a pretty easy repair with a soldening iron.
The relay is behind the trim panel in the boot on the rhs bolted to the structure.
You can check that a wire direct from the powered pin of the relay to the centre pin of the motor 3pin plug operates all as normal

BTw 10 mins tops to fix it this way;) and also fix the broken wire to the no plate.

Yes - agreed. If I "fiddle" with the rubber boot the lights will operate and the wiper will work. Didn't notice the relay so thanks for that.

Is it better to slit the rubber boot to gain access in place and then replace with glue/tape ??

No, dont cut it pull it out from both the lid and the body, theres enough of loom inside to pull out a bit each end to work on easliy
