Vista install disk

Is there anywhere I can legally download a copy?

I removed Vista a while back in favour of Ubuntu, but due to a problem with Ubuntu (which turned out to be my own fault), I went back to Windoze. Not having a disk for it, I installed a dodgy copy that someone had handy.

It works fine for the most part but I can't upgrade it to SP2.

Ideas anyone or anyone in Galway willing to lend a copy for a hours?

    "Lending" a copy is

    1) on the illegal side of things and

    2) wouldn't work anyway.

The way MS verifies whether a copy of Windows is legit or not is from the unique serial number printed on a card inside every Windows cd box/case. Having a legit cd won't help you in the slightest.

You used to be able to buy a serial number on the MS website, but I haven't been down that road in years and I don't know if they still do it.

The old legit solution is to buy your own copy of Windows.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add, you're not gonna get a 'workaround' type solution here. I direct you to the charter....

    NO! NO! NO!

(In other words, we're here to discuss software you have a valid license for, not software a man in a mac in the pub gave you for a pint and a fondle.)

I wanted the cd so that I could reinstall the operating system that I have paid for and have a licence key for stuck to the side of the case.

Never having had a physical disk for the OS was the reason I install the dodgy copy in the first place.

Notice I mentioned "legal" in my post, while not having been terribly clear about what I was after exactly.

I also take issue with being directed to advice given by a UCD fan.

sorry, i missed the "legal" in the first post! :)

You won't find anywhere legal to download Vista anymore anyway, now that it's been succeeded by 7. So your best bet is to loan a CD from someone....like you already suggested! Sorry for wasting your time! :D
