Burner issues

Looking for some help,Have a new Riello 40 burner fitted, noticed that it is heating up to temp and switching off,but then it switches on and off about every 3 mins.I know that it should do this as the temp drops but every 3 mins,is a bit much,it will do this no mater what the outside temp is like. The last pump would heat up and stop then boost every 10-15 mins

Have checked the following, control box, thermostat, water pump, all electric connections, checked for leaks, blead the system. The burner is new, this is the 2nd one fitted both have the same issues.

Any ideas will be welcome,as i need to get this fixed as Iam using up serious amounts off oil.The heating system is not pressurised. If that makes a differance, the old pump worked fine until the oil pump went it never ran the same as the Riello.

    Cheers

Sounds like the boiler/ burner is working correctly.
    BUT....
the boiler heat exchanger is not rejecting the heat from your burner efficiently. The boiler may be reaching temperature too quickly and then the stat is switching off and cooling down.
    Two reasons:
    #1. circulation issue.
    A.
The circulation pump may not be able to circulate water out of boiler quick enough. Check the pump setting is at max (III).

    B.
Have you had issues with corrosion / slugding/ or air in system.
this may also be a reason for bad circulation.
Check air vent at boiler is working.

    #2. Burner output too high.
The burner may be producing too much heat for the boiler/system.
You can re-rate the burner by changing nozle, oil pressure and air settings. [This may reduce your oil usage].

    #3. Basic servicing.
When the burner was changed was the boiler chamber cleaned out and serviced???
I tend to find that alot of burners are replaced but the boiler is not cleaned and set up properly.... The underlying problem may still be there:rolleyes:.

Thanks for the reply.I will check it out and post back.1 other question if you dont mind,Just something I noticed,on the boiler, the imput and output are on the same side 1 top and 1 bottom at the back of the boiler (left side)but the stat is on the front top(right side).there is another connection on the top right side, would it be better to connect to this to help flow.At the moment its all on 1 side.Just a thought...

Which tappings you use on the older boilers were dependent on convienience normally.
Most plumbers would use one side of the boiler.
Both of the flow tappings are connect to the same header so in theory the temperature is the same.

However I recommend where possible, taking the feed and return on opposite corners of the boiler. I believe that it makes more efficient use of the heatexchanger and ensures that you have full circultion through the internal passes. Thus reducing likelyhood of debris/dirt remaining or trapping in boiler.
(I think most manufactures design their heatexchangers with the above principle, to maximise contact factor and flow rates etc ).
To modify pipework now would incur a cost that you may not se any benefit from.
