for weddings i'd imagine you advertise, maybe do a freebie and get the word and mouth going

clubs are another kettle of fish and in my case i'd put 90% of it down to luck

1st gig: Was DJing a house party afterparty and got asked by a random promoter who was there to DJ at a night.

After that I think I made a mix and sent it to anyone I knew that were running nights, not sure how many slots I got because of that.

Most were just random phonecalls or emails from promoters I didn't really know.

All you can do is keep practicing, keep making mixes, and try and build up some kind of following on the internet. Promoters are always looking for DJs, so if you're good enough they'll find you.

For me most of them have come from other people in the job, I'd do a night covering for someone and get more nights in the venue out of that!
I got 1000 full colour matt finish business cards for €99 and dropped them into every pub in sight!...got a few gigs from those, but only in one place did I get over 10 gigs from it, well worth the 99 quid in my opinion!:)

Having said that Im currently resident DJ in a disco bar, I heard an ad. on the radio, called them, was given a trial night and sure enough I got the slot!:D
As for bigger clubs I havent got that far yet, from what I know the likes of Galway and Sligo are well taken care of by DJ's!:(

Probably the most realistic piece of advice you're going to get. You either have to annoy people on Facebook with irrelevant mixes, kiss the promoters arse or have loads of mates that you'll bring to the gig because you're not going to get gigs otherwise really.

There's a few exceptions to that rule but Dublin is a sick place when it comes to people getting gigs and the reasons behind it.

Oh and don't forget you probably won't get paid for club gigs either :)

    Best of luck.
