    Hi

We live in SW Donegal. We are about to buy a new TV and wonder if there is any merit in buying one with built in freeview/freesat tuner ?

Feesat tuner is fine-freeview is the UK standard so it won't be compatible with the Irish DTT service, make sure it's Saorview certified.

"Freeview HD" (but not "Freeview", even on "Full HD" TV) works on both Irish (Saorview) and N.I. (Freeview) DTT if you have a Strabane or Limavady signal.

Otherwise you need a dish & LNB for Freesat.

There will be no Freeview of any kind from Strabane for another two years but if you are west of Barnesmore Gap, it is probably no good to you anyway. Your only slim chance of UK Freeview may be Brougher Mountain at the moment.

There is a good chance of Saorview from Truskmore now though if you have a view to the south.

As well as the link in Watty's post, check 'TV's working with Saorview - The List' for potential TVs. Keep a look out for special offers coming up to Christmas, though I would avoid the Aldi/Lidl ones.
