    Hi,
When I bought my Octavia I ordered a few extras. How would i get my hands on documentation confirming the presence of these extras so that if , for example, I was selling my car on I could prove that the extras are present?
    Thanks

What kind of extras is it?
Usually you just can see them, or easily check if you have them.

take out your owners manual and flip to the diagram of switches , whatevers blank in your car - thats a feature you dont have, HID lights, leather seats and different trim colours or a different stereo should be obvious

OP may be thinking of non visible items like sports suspension.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

...or ESP. The visible switches only refer to ASR as the Octavia no longer allows the driver disable ESP.

Well on VAG vehicles, if you look in the spare wheel well there should be a white sticker with a load of 3 letter codes on it, all those codes relate to trim levels and extras etc fitted at the factory to your particular car.

I'm sure the codes are listed online somewhere..

I've never seen a steel plaque, just the sticker as almost every vehicle is slightly different.

There is a printout sticked on the first page of your service booklet
It contains all the extras built in to your car

Spot on. Found the codes at link below:
    http://www.vag-codes.info/files/vag-option-codes.pdf

I think I need to get onto the dealer. I ordered curtain airbags. The code in my book is 4X3 which according to the doc above is "Side airbag front and curtain airbag". Seeing that "Side air bag, front with curtain air bag front and rear" is a separate option I take it I only have curtain airbags in the front. If so, I'm not happy!! I asked for curtain airbags. I'll be astounded if having them only in the front is what is to be assumed from that. I didn't even know you could get them in the front only!

Also ordered heated windscreen washers and I don't have that code at all.

Hopefully there bare valid reasons behind all this.
    Thanks

Heated windscreen washers will be part of a winter pack not sure if you'll have a code for it,i didn't on my Bora - its another extra that is easy to check, the heated washer jets along with the heated mirrors work off the rear window de frost button - try it on a cold morning.

Also ASR is just another name for ESP.the car isn't going to have both ASR and ESPmone of which the factory deemed you can't turn off it's not a zonda.

There is a code for the heated washers (9T1). As far as I can tell they should be on once the car starts and are always on. In any case I may have them. I had no reason to doubt I did until I saw it missing from the extras list. My washers failed to work last week but I put that down to frozen reservoir and piping.

ASR and ESP are different. ASR stops the front wheels spinning in slippery conditions. ESP applies the brakes of the car in order to stop the car spinning out of control. They allow the disabling of ASR as there are times when you want the wheels to spins.

    Cheers.

As far as I know is VWs ASR is the basic option and ESP is the upgrade which as all the ASR features and additional ESR features.

if u bought new car and want to check extras
all u need is your VIN number and VIN DECODER
u can find it on many sites justo google up 'vag vin decoder'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

Just tried the VIN decoders and they report back 6 airbags which again suggests front only curtain airbags.
Question: What is considered as standard when cars come with curtain airbags as standard? Front only, or front and rear? Really annoyed with this.

what exact model is this octavia and when was it produced? month/year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

2010 model bought january this year. Ambiente spec plus a few extras.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,686 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Were you not presented with a list of options possible and all the info relating to what you need to buy in order to get other options etc. For example you might need leather if you want heated seats etc. Therefore if that is the case you should have been able to work out what you were actually ordering or whether there was 2 levels of curtain airbags available.
Hard to blame the dealer really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,620 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

If you bought the car new the dealer would have made you sign the SIMI contract where the extras would have been itemised, you need to have checked this list and if what you thought you were ordering wasn't there it's too late now, you signed the contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

Option was specified as curtain airbags. Options list was "Curtain Aribags"....not "Front only curtains airbags or front and rear curtain airbags".

I have been doing some searching and it looks like they may still be front and rear but deployed only from the front pillar.

You could remove and re-fit just enough trim to see if there are rear curtain airbags ... then you would know for sure.

What's with the Darwin award ???? It's not like the OP would damage the car or himself. Curtain airbag will be behind headlining or rear quarter trim. Just remove rubber seal around top of door frame, unscrew grab handle, and take a peek under the roof lining. Airbag module will be obvious. There will be a void if airbag not fitted. Where is the risk in that ????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,223 ✭✭✭Nissan doctor

If it has curtain airbags then it'll have the little plate on the pillar with 'curtain airbag' or 'srs airbag' on it.

Also bare in mind that just because an extra or spec is available in the UK or Europe doesn't mean its available here.

If you were given the option of curtain airbags, not front or full curtain airbags then what you got is obviously all that's available in Ireland.

Extras in my car is air conditioning, GPS Navigation, and alloys wheels when I brought my car new.

    After sales extras
1/. E85 Kit to burn Ethonal as well as Petrol and
2/. Cruise Control, great for motorway driving or Very long stretch of road that the Limerick city council have 50kph on a non-build up area (Condell road).

    Possible accessories
Replace my GPS Navigation with a newer version of GPS Navigation with Bluetooth for hands free kit and maybe rear view camera with recording in order to name and shame tailgators.

it seems to be only one type of courtain airbags listed here
There is no option for front or front and rear

The danger is some twat going at it without disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a few minutes before going at the airbag.

You know what your doing but thousands don't. I'm not saying OP doesn't but somebody may think its a good idea to just stick in a screwdriver to pull back the panelling to see
