I got married recently and i have a lot of pics that i'd like to get framed and some done on canvas. The professional has also emailed me a few of my favourites from her shots. I'd like to know the best website for getting high quality print outs for regular photo prints and also for canvas? Thanks.

This may seem like a silly reply but Aldi keep getting recommendations and praise for their processing they do canvas prints as well.

    Just a thought:)

You could try http://www.photobox.ie We've had some photos done with them recently and the quality was great and delivery was fast - about 3/4 days. Not sure they would be that quick with canvas prints mind :)

thats a rare find ...a professional who will email you images !!!

most professionals wont give you a digital file as it means you can print it as many times as you like.

It's the opposite these days with wedding photography. Most low/medium budget togs will supply a DVD with print res files. So much so, it's become more or less expected from clients.

For the OP - if you're looking for good quality budget prints, the above mentioned sites will do fine. I use photobox for my family shots and for friends gifts and things.

If you're looking for a higher quality and don't mind paying a bit extra for it, you can try

    http://www.360-dpi.com/ (stcstc here on boards),
    http://www.loxleycolour.com/
    http://www.proamimaging.com/

but are these professional photographers ? ..... or just people who can operate a camera and do weddings occasionally.

I'm not a wedding photographer - and do not intend on doing wedding photography.... just my understanding of how a professional wedding photographer operates:

    - Agree fee/package
    - do photographs and process
    - show client images (client chooses X amount)
    - images filed - in the event client wishes to re-order more pics.

(of course theres a bit more than from that list but I can only go on the experience of siblings and friends marriages)

Professionals, yes. In fact, the weekend warriors are probably the main cause of the shift from the old way (keeping print sales) and the new model of relinquishing the rights. I think seasoned pro's resisted going to DVD packages or including DVD in their album packages for as long as they could. There are of course some that will charge accordingly for the negs, then some that don't offer it at all, but they would be in the minority these days. It's a tough one and has a been a hot topic in wedding tog circles for a few years now.

Just to add - depending on how the photographer works, DVD only packages can be very profitable for the wedding photographer. Not my particular style, but lashing 1000 jpgs with basic editing onto a disc is much easier than designing a wedding album and getting paid properly for it.

I'm hoping to get some canvass prints. I am going to use photobox.ie thanks to your recommendations.

Just want to know the following:

Would you recommend getting it wrapped or not (i.e with a fold in it)?

Would you recommend square/rectangular/panoramic or does it all depend on the original picture i.e. potrait looks good in square etc?

    Thanks

It's tricky to answer those questions without seeing the photograph, I'd say wrapping normally looks better, as for the other questions might be best to leave it in the original format the image is in unless you've got an eye for composition then go for it.

The dot foundry is another option for prints, canvas. They do stunning prints, tad pricey though.

    all the best
