Car radio/ electrical problem

Volkswagen polo 02. Car radio is completely unusable. Sound is either distorted , voices sounds robotic, or the sound level gets really low and thin. These things happen randomly and it's very rare now that the sound is anything but terrible.
Also, the dashboard display flickers randomly when the lights are on. Braking seems to cause it to flicker, but sometimes it does it by itself.

No doubt I'll need to bring the car to a garage, but any idea of the cost?

mf gf's polo does this too, especially if you turn the volume up to a certain level. i know in her case the antenna/power cable is loose due to crappy design and theres a loose connection in the left speaker output. is it an aftermarket radio?`

I am unsure as to whether it's aftermarket or not. Turning the volume up really loud used to clear the bugs out briefly. After a time the problems would return again. Any idea as to home much it will cost to get these things fixed?

I'm afraid I don't. Looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet. Would have been nice to know how big the bullet is though.

it could be a very simple fix or it could be long drawn out knowing car electrics. its more than likely a loose connection in the vicinity of the head unit and should be a quick easy fix for anyone worth their salt.

So it's possible that the two issues are related to each other. Best case scenario, what sort of cost am I looking at? 50....100?

Im afraid its the radio fault as it gives out clipping signal to speakers and to the dash at the same time. But whats exactly is broken its hard to say. Where are you based so people can reccommend a decent guy to take a look at that. I feel comfortable with caraudio but only not with equipment internal damages.

I'm based in Mullingar. Unless someone has some sort of business or I know them, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting them take a look at it. No offence ;)
