we've all had them, but how many of you have experienced them?

we just got a taxi home tonight, and the scoundrel attempted to charge double the cost. Hilariously, he even threatened to call the cops on us when we questioned his charges, saying, "i work awful hard to bring you fu*kers home" ya da ya da ya da.. as we exited the vehicle as demanded and so that we could speak with the man, he took off, in accordance with our subsequent suspicion that he was a bogus taximan.

my only regret is not recording his taxi number :( it's going to be part of my new ritual to write the number when i enter the taxi...

    anyone else?

Did you ger a receipt from him? you are entitled to a printed receipt which will show his plate number, distance travelled, time of hire and end of hire, and reg number?
Did he/she have ID card on the dashboard? If he didnt they you should not have gotten into his car?
He may have been an illegal driver, believe me there are quite a few out there,so take care.
Having said that, the VAST MAJORITY of taxi drivers are decent and honest.

ahh i do know that.. I very rarely have any problem with taxi drivers, and always find the vast majority brilliant. But this guy was just odd. Was definitely a valid taxi, just not so sure about him! I was half pissed, so getting a number wasn't on my list of priorities :o as soon as he got us out of the car, he jumped back in and literally sped off. we were left standing in the middle of the road, cash in hand, looking at ourselves thinking "WTF?" :D was kinda surreal.

Only thing i can advise is before ya get into the taxi dial the taxi plate number into your phone dial it and then hang up. So it saves it into the last dialed.

Except you can't see the plate number when you are in the car ;) I'd advise you to take a quick pic of the cab as you hailed it.

That's why he said "before ya get into".

My sis has done this for years. It's an old trick. It's simple. And it's very effective.
