many of the films you see these days with a romantic/love theme dont necessarily have great chemistry between the two lead actors

So what films do you think have great sexual chemistry between the male & female lead?

    The 39 Steps (1935) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0026029/

This chemistry between the 2 leads in this one is sizzling. Still a thrilling film and worth watching if you can...

Some of the 1940 and 1950s films with the likes of Bogart and Bacall for example are great to watch for the chemistry also. Often the actors were having affairs off screen too which spiced things up. Something about the Hays code also in this era adds to the films and their actors exuding chemistry onto the screen.

yeah alot of the older films have great chemistry in them - but I was thinking more about modern films.

As they say, they dont make em like they used to :)

Would Out of Sight count, Clooney and J. Lopez, one or two steamy scenes

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks seemed do well together, One fine day is another one

    Define modern then.

I've never seen out of sight, must have a look.

I suppose by modern, I mean anything from the 80's/90's onwards?

i just cant think of any of the top of my head.

One of my favourite oldies, and I know its prob a cliche, but Gone with the Wind had great chemistry.

Actually, now that I think of it, and i know its not really a "romantic" film - but Russell Crowe and Connie Nielsen had great chemistry in their scene's together in Gladiator

    • Mr and Mrs Smith
    • Monsters
    • The Fountain

Before Sunrise (1995) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112471/ is a pretty good cinematic attempt at describing that falling in love feeling.

Les amants du Pont-Neuf (1991) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101318/ has a 21 year old Juliette Binoche as a tramp in love on the streets of Paris. :D Well not really but it's still an interesting and different love story.

As most Hollywood movies have stars who are also "celebrities" and who we know too much about the personal lives anyway, it's hard to find a modern film that has that certain chemistry that I think the OP is looking for.

Yeah Mr & Mrs Smith had pretty good chemistry allright - their tango scene was pretty hot.

I suppose this is sort of what I'm talking about

A Lot Like Love is one where the leads, Peet and Kutcher , have a great chemistry imho, and were easy to buy into as a pair who were into each other.

Serendipity is another where the leads just seem to work as a pair attracted to each other.

Brokeback Mountain is another that springs to mind with leads who are convincing in their mutual attraction/lust/love

King Kong works well on this level also.:D

Really liked the chemistry in Some Kind of Wonderful between Eric Stoltz and Mary Stuart Masterson. Their kiss is amazing. Not mad about the movie in general though...

Out of Sight definitely, I only watched it the other night, its the only film where Jennifer Lopez gives a good performance, and the scene where herself and Clooney meet for the first time is completely believable that they fall for each other in the space of a few mins. Great film too some brilliant scenes.

Obviously Mr & Mrs Smith comes to mind.

Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson... Really? They're not together?
Ok then, Ben Stiller & Will Ferrell

I liked Javier Bardems scenes with Penelope Cruz in Vicky Christina Barcelona. They were really intense

    'Out of Sight' definately.

Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins in 'Silence of the Lambs'.
Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in 'It Happened One Night'.
Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette in 'True Romance'.

Another vote here for One Fine Day here - it's actually quite old-fashioned in one sense. It manages the rare feat of featuring kids that are not annoying. It starred Clooney (Out Of Sight) and Michelle Pfeiffer, who had another great romantic pairing with Al Pacino in Frankie and Johnny.

The new film Monsters has a good dose of real chemistry in it: its two leads recently got married, so there was definitely something going on there. :)

I don't think the thread should neccessarily be restricted to 'romance', William Hurt and Kevin Costner had compelling chemistry in Mr. Brooks. Will Smith and his son had brilliant chemistry in the Pursuit of Happiness. I know I'm completely off-topic but going on the exact requirements of the thread, I'm sorta right. :pac:

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor - great comedic chemistry and bromance on screen

I loved Isabella Rossellini and Ted Danson's chemistry in the film Cousins. It's such a lovely, romantic and funny film. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see a good romantic comedy about two actual adults who gradually fall in love. To me it's the perfect film.
