Quite a specific bargain really, but Bull & Castle next to ChristChurch are now giving a free beer to anyone who has been at a gig at Vicar Street.

Was leaving the pub last night (after some post Tommy Tiernan drinks) and saw on the door a poster saying "Enjoy a free beer after Vicar Street".

Showed tickets to barman and he said that you have to ask when leaving Vicar Street for a voucher for the free drink but gave it to us anyway last night as "it was our first time and we didn't know to get the voucher."

So if you go to a gig at Vicar Street, ask for a Bull & Castle drinks voucher when you're leaving from the doormen. 1 beer per ticket!

Nice one. What beer did you have? Is it any beer or a select beer? I ask because if it is any draft beer, the Sierra Nevada Tumbler is priced at €6 (expensive limited time import) where as most draft beers are more like €4.35 in there.

Either way its a great to have something for free and after a gig at vicar street I can think of no where else I would rather go to be honest :D

wtf? why is that. surely your ticket with the date of the show should be ok?!!!
bull and castle annoys me and this is another reason, i saw a poster for this deal and no where did it mention you have to get a voucher at vicar street.

Because tickets could easily be passed around between people, unless they are going to take peoples gig tickets which obviously they are not going to do. I'm not a huge fan, but in fairness it's a completely reasonable expectation especially when they are just giving away something for free.

I would imagine for the same reason the clampers will not take the clamp off even if you show them a ticket stub for the time you were clamped. It does not prove you you purchased it and they take photographic proof showing you did not have a ticket in the window. Clearly you picked it up off the ground.
    It is open to abuse.

For instance, the Irish being the dirty litterers that many are will throw their stubs on the ground rather than put them in the bin. This means you could collect hundreds of stubs and have free drinks at the Bull and Castle for weeks.

I am not saying that you do or don't have to get a voucher. Just saying that if you do, there is a very reasonable explanation as to why.

The barmen said it was because a group of lads came in after one or two had been at a gig and they used the same ticket in rotation to get loads of beers so when the barmen took a note of the ticket number they realised they were getting the same ticket every time. Pretty understandable really. On Friday he tore the very corner of our tickets just so they couldnt be recycled. I assume the poster was designed with just taking someones ticket as proof but as people were abusing it massively they had to alter it.

The reason they don't advertise it until you get to B&C and not (he says) at Vicar Street is because regulars or anyone whose been in B&C will be familiar with the deal whereas if they hand out a free drink to just anyone whose been at the gig, they could easily be down 1,300 beers on any given night.

On Friday night it was a bottle of Sol, the barman laughingly said it was a bad week to choose because last week was a pint of Galway Hooker or something like that, so the beer depends on the promotion that week.

Interestingly there was also a lad outside Jurys giving out free drinks vouchers too which were Sol vouchers to coax people into B&C so me and my mate got two free bottles of Sol. Happy days!

I would have given away the Sol voucher and paid for a Galway Hooker to be honest. But that's just me. :D

Still, free is free even if it has limitations. Great bargain :D
