Bank Guarantee was decided before Sept 30 08: Gormley

Anyone pick up on what John Gormley said today in his interview with Marian Finucane?

He said it was decided to guarantee the banks on Sunday the 28th, and that only the finer details were decided on the famous night of 29th/30th.

This is certainly news to me and is contrary to the narrative presented to the Irish people of Brians 1 & 2 deciding at midnight meetings on the 30th, under enormous pressure they claim, to guarantee the banks.
Is this the smoking gun that exposes the Government lies?

The interview is podcasted, he talks about the timeline about 20 minutes into it.

Well its one thing twisting the truth , its another blatantly lying but I cant see much coming from it, usual crap will be spouted from Lenihan if hes asked about it.
"Of course, we had to have preliminary discussions on Sunday the 28th but I can assure you there was no decision made of any type finalised on that Sunday , and it was absolutely necessary that we had to make the final decision of guaranteeing those banks on the the night of the 29th. Had we not implemented the guarantee the consequences would have been drastic for the economy."

(Note how he drifts off at the end and completely avoids the point.)

Yeah thats it, i don't know where politicans develop this skill but they all have it. Or maybe those that don't have it are weeded out earlier.

He will be asked directly about this issue and he will manage to waffle his way out of admitting he lied.

Whenever it was, no-one has adequately explained why it was done to the extreme.

My guess is that they were partly spooked by the bankers and partially strong-armed by European heads into "saving" the banks. And being politicians they were subsequently unwilling to fess up that they done a blooper.

Surely you're not suggesting that they put other peoples' wishes ahead of the Irish people who pay their wages and whom they're supposed to represent ?

FF would never do that! ;)

Mind you, there was that idiot in Cork who refused to represent his constituents and said that he'd only represent those who voted for him.

He'd also be likely to chant "No, I don't accept that" a few times.

FF lying. now there is a shock!!!
Would it not be the case that the chiefs of the EU simply dont want any bank in the eurozone/EU to fail as they are all so interlinked that one going would have the domino effect and possibly bring them all down. Saving the banks at whatever cost!!
Since the inception of the euro has any eurozone/EU bank failed?

The Irish banks shares collapsed on the Monday. I'd say it is very likely the cabinet decision was taken on the Sunday but would have taken time to implement. The Monday precipitated an economic and banking crisis.

I get the above message everytime in Opera and Firefox. Running Linux so can't try IE. Copying and pasting it into VLC and Realplayer for Linux to stream from Internet fail too, all with error not found.
