Hey, i have the marlin 917v 17hmr and its a great gun. I asume the one your lookin at is the same model? bit of practice you will have good groups out around 200, iv mine zerod at 110 yards and its bang on at 150 so long range headshots on rabbits and long distance crows or mags are possable. Iv shot a fair few foxes with mine using the hornady(these work best in my rifle) 17gr v-max and they do the job, good placement is important though and luckly enough iv only had 1 or2 run a short distance before dropping. What scope are you gettin with it? i have a niko sterling 4-12x50 on mine and it works fine, holds zero and is very clear, most of my shooting is done at night and i find the scope good in low light and using a lamp.

No chance - especcially given how urban/suburban areas are now such big repositories were foxes effectively enjoy total protection(from hunters, farmers etc.) as well as excellent feeding and breeding habitat.

I have a Marlin 917 hmr with Sako moderator, I thought i was getting a "learner Rifle" but it never fails to surprise me. IMO Marlin 917 outclasses any .22 firle out there.

I have a marlin 917vs about 4 years now ive shot hundreds of bunnys with it and countless other vermin and it does the job very well-its very accurate on a windless day it would shoot a 10mm group at 100yrds fairly easy with hornady v-max.I didnt like the original trigger because it has way to much play so i fitted a rifle basix adjustable trigger set to around 1.5lbs its a pleasure to use now!
Think i gave €550 for the rifle new without a scope or mounts, whatever you do make sure to put a decent clear high mag scope on it as you will be shooting small targets fairly far away so a good scope is half the battle.

i would stay away from the older marlins as two friends of mine have them and there not great accuracy wise. that said the lads above seem to rate the new ones highly so good luck with your purchase.

Alot of bad press about the triggers they were comin with at one stage, everyone was changin them! Mine came with this t900 trigger they are now using and i find it very comfortable and it has a nice break. how much did you pay for the rifle basix trigger lad?

yaa but i was more refering to the country..like them becoming low in numbers like in the country for hunters. Like i was talking ta a lad today and they shot 6 foxes local either today or yesterday,,and you'd think that would make a big difference ta numbers?? but mabye not/...

Yes the gun is well capable of taking foxes, good shot placement is important as the rounds are very small so alot of practice on targets and rabbits at different distances before attempting to shoot a fox. its not a dedicated fox round like a .204 or .223 but if your gonna want to shoot rabbits too and shoot targets for practicing its ideal as an all rounder and is alot cheaper to run than the larger calibers

what magnification scope would suit Marlin 917 .17 hmr for long range shooting (100 yards).

Seriously - don't worry bout it, surplus suburban stock constantly replenishes surrounding rural areas. That is certainly the case in these parts anyhow:)

My scope is 4-12 times magnification, i usually have it around 9/10 when shooting long range rabbits up to 150 or more. doesnt really change of that setting unless im shootin nearer than about 60 meters

    Simple answer is no.

Exact answer is "in a nutshell" if you did own 5 rifles and 5 shotguns you would need serious security for the Crime prevention officer to sign you off on getting a licence.
Probably, a safe, a room with a BS approved security lock, the room alarmed, and a monitored house alarm.

It is not uncommon to have 2x12g shotgun (1 for clays, 1 for game) 2 x.22lr rifle (Target & Hunting) and 2 x Centrefire rifles, (target and Hunting)

There are more specific answers, I have given a fairly general answer, as sometimes you need that security level with less firearms, depends on teh firearms etc being restricted or not.

No that totaly answers my question, legaly you can have as many as you like but that doesnt mean you'l get them hahaha
Thats what I had assumed it would be but ive heard somewhere that a person cant have more than 1 firearm and I knew that was wrong so I said id see if maybe they had miss heard and it was more than 1 of the SAME firearm
