    Hi Everyone,

A group of us going to Oberstdorf in January.

My mate is in 2 minds whether to rent a ski pants and jacket out there, or buy at home/internet. Anyone have any recommendations or experience with the cost of renting out there or in general?

    Thanks in Advance

Not sure what the Rental cost is but €80 - 150 will get you Jacket and Pants in TK Makk.

Also Great Outdoors in Dublin does Columbia and Helly Hansen Rental Gear for ski holidays

Have the ski deals in Lidl/Aldi been and gone??

Lidl were a couple of weeks ago - but they didn't seam to have as big a range as other years. Aldi usually run theirs around new years for the last two years anyway. However I reckon their range will be curtailed as well... From my own stray poll, not as many people going skiing this year.

I have gotten aldi ski trousers and I spent a bit of money on my jackets - I tend to reuse the ski jackets for treking and hiking as well here in Ireland as they have good water-resistance and are warm. Highly recommend aldi's ski gear for value for money.

Jackets can be used for things other than just skiing so you can justify a bit of expense there if needed. The sallopetts are not really something you'd be using for anything else, but cheap deals should be findable in the likes of TKMaxx, or borrow from a friend.

Pennys do very reasonable gear too - saw a really nice Ladies ski jacket there on Sat. Was pretty tempted, if I didn't have a decent one already.

Where is he going to rent ski clothes in Oberstdorf ?

I thought this was going to be about boots-ski's-helmets etc.

I cannot see the point of not buying a jacket & trousers here, they will not be wasted even if you never go on a ski holiday again.

There are good deals for high quality gear in TK Max etc but the basic gear in Lidl-Penny's etc is sound for a couple of holidays.

Or tell him to ask around, he might be able to borrow some stuff.

Don't have a clue where he is going to rent the gear. Guessing where we will rent skis and snowboards.

Unfortunately he is quite unorganised. We live in the city and Pennies (its a 5min walk away) had cheap thermals but is too lazy to go over there. The rest of us have the gear packed and ready but he doesn't have squat and said it would be easier to rent.

Hoping this thread will give some realisation. Tried Lidl and was mainly womens gear, not mens except for fleeces.

He'll get a bit of a land when he arrives and has to fork out resort prices for buying new snazzy gear! Or else he'll end up like some girl I saw last year, in a pair of jeans and an overcoat. Looked like she just stepped out of the office for a beginners lesson on the slopes. Looked VERY odd.

IMO I think it is important to stress that it is up to him to make the most of the holiday... if he is too lazy to get himself sorted with basic clothing maybe its not the holiday for him.
Don't waste your time on hols getting him sorted with this sh1te.

(or maybe he should bring his mammy :pac:)

you could buy get a jacket + pants in TK Maxx or Primark for pretty much the price of renting it (think that it's a about €60 to rent jacket + pants in the few places that do rental in Ireland). not sure if most resorts will rent you stuff over there - I would doubt it.
