Chair inside main door of Martin Ryan building

What's up with this? Some sort of pseudo-security system to lull potential marine science-poachers into thinking this plastic chair has caused the building to become an impenetrable fortress?

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, there's often a brown, plastic chair just inside the main glass doors of the Martin Ryan Institute (not the Annexe). It always seems to be there after they've locked the building up for the night.

I'll try to get a picture next time I'm passing, but no doubt some of you know what I'm referring to.

I'd assume it's so people know that the building is locked up.

    It's a chair on a floor in a building.

Had I put the chair there it would have been to facilitate sitting either in the sunshine, to perve on passing students,or both.

I think the real question here is whether the chair is propped up against the doors to stop them opening! Such is the level of extreme security measures in Ireland, I wouldn't be surprised!

maybe they need the chair to stand on to reach something above the door when locking and opening it....

It could be to keep the door closed to prevent a draught?

Rubbish... that's not nearly conspiratorial enough to be at all likely!

Also meant to comment on this earlier...

Absolute height of security there! I especially love that the door opens outwards! :D

But yeah, the lock-above-the-door theory makes the most sense...
