Graphic design question

    Hi All,
Just wondering does anyone know how difficult it is to take a photograph (headshot) and turn it into a graphic (vector graphic or similar) so that it is changed to look like the black image of Che Guvara that usually appears on red backgound. (bascailly just convert a photo into a black image like the iconic one of che)

    What applications are needed?

    What is this process called?

    Cheers!!!

A simple way to do it is open with any program that adjusts contrast and turn it all the way up to 100%
For example, I used Paint.NET to do old Dubya here:
    539ws.jpg
    dubya.jpg

Of course you can play around with it, there are some tutorials (Google "Che Guevara effect/style") for messing around with the threshold and whatnot.

How difficult would it be to ensure that that newly created image is compliant with these standards?

    • be at least 200 dpi
    • not be larger than 4000 x 4000 pixels
    • not be larger than 10 MB

Well if you're doing it in vector none of those really matter.
Just toss the image into Illustrator and Live Trace it using one of the presets.
