    Hi,
I hope there's someone out there who can help. I have anit-virus software (the free AVG Software). But this week i've started having problems with my computer. I keep getting messages up saying that i have infected files and they give a list of them, most of them starting with ''Trojan'' and have something to do with Paypal. I'm getting the messages from the internet security centre and when i click the link to fix files-i'm taken to another website which charges 100's. I have no idea now if these messages are genuine. I've searched the names of these infected files on my computer but i can't find any of them. Thes message are getting quite annoying. I'm getting them every 10 minutes or so. Is there anything i can do to get rid of them? Thanks in advance!

    Read this properly

    1. Read the "I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 12/02/2010) sticky in the Virus and Malware forum.

    2. Carry out as many of the instructions in that thread as you can.

    3. Then post the relevant logs or any other relevant info, in a new thread in that forum.

Someone will be along to help but only once you do those tasks.

You're a victim of "scareware". I see maybe 5 PC's/notebooks per week with the same problem. Usually caused by falling for the "your computer may have errors, click here for a free scan" scam. Under NO circumstances should you give out your credit-card info, that's what they're really after. Which scam is it? "Security Tool" is quite a common one!

Can you post the exact name of what is reporting the messages (or a screenshot it you can)? As PapaQuebec says, this is one of many variations of fake antivirus popups. They're generally curable as long as you can let us exactly which one it is.

Appologies for the late reply an thank you for all responses.

The message i am getting consists of a red box saying something like this:

''Warning! Virus Detected. The name of the viris is Trojan Spy.HTML''

When i click out of it, i get another message saying:

''Do you want to continu unprotected?''

When i click yes, the computer goes back to normal.

Is there any way i can get rid of these messages.

It get kind of irritating getting this message every 10-15 mins!

    Can you :

    1. Post a screenshot of the message or post EXACTLY what the message says and if possible the name of the program reporting the message.

    2. Confirm whether or not you've followed any of the instructions posted by Tricky D 2 weeks ago.
