Just wondering if there is any kind of electronic noticeboard in the college?
I'm looking for a second hand nintendo DS lite, and figure there must be some way to advertise this among the students?

There are often laptop/console for sale notices on the noticeboards along the computing corridor, between 2286ish and 2301. Would be a good place to try.

If you stick a notice on the board along the main corridor near the library it should get noticed

Thanks for that, just thought that the computer geeks would have sorted out a 21st century solution! :P

I'm surprised by the simplicity of a lot of things in the college. Even something like a lecturer taking the register - ticking a sheet of paper - when there are hundreds of people knocking about who'd be able to make a computerised version.

    That's true!
Even the local secondary schools have an automatic swipe in system, using individual student I.D, cards. We all have I.D. cards, but apart from updating our print quotas, and for exams, they're way under utilised.

What else do you think could be "modernised"???

Hmm, maybe 'a lot' was an overstatement :P

What would be very handy, and a lot more useful than the desktop sidebar thing on all the computers, would be a networked calendar type thing. Lecturers use it to keep track of assignments, automatically shows up on the relevant student's calendars. Lecturers attach notes to the calendar, students can download them, things like that. It would be better than trawling through different lecturers (often horribly disorganised) public drives in search of notes.

Is that, or should that be, was that, the purpose of the "Blackboard" system?
ATM it's only PC that uses it, but it does work well for notes, quizzes and a calendar.
Pity none of the other lecturers are using it.

Can't say I've ever used it. If it is the same thing, then it should really be made more prominent on the desktop and lecturers should be made to use it.
