Wiper Motor

I burnt out my wiper motor and got a quote of €400 to get a new (excluding fitting) - Is this right? Sounds a bit steep for a wiper motor...

Was hoping to find one in a breakers yard but was told that there wouldn't be many, if any, '04 A4's in them.

Could anybody shed some light on this please.

    Thanks!

A 04 A4 is nearly seven years old, there has to be some of them in scrap yards. Ring traynors in the north or a scrappie in england and get it sent over.

Who adviced you that you wouldnt find this car scrapped? If you look hard enough you will save yourself a fortune.

    Good luck

    Peter

Was told by the same crowd who were looking for in excess of €400..

I'm very new to the southside (Dublin) so don't know any places local. Only one I know of is off the Malahide road.

Was told about that place Traynors, so I'll give em a call on my lunch break. Stuck in the office all weekend

Dont listen to them headers that want your 400 euro. Get a list of scrappies. traynors can be a little bit more expensive but once a week they deliver everywhere in ireland. I have got stuff down to mayo and they had a truck full for the south, they have to deliver to dublin.

Just rang em there but got no answer, guess they're closed for the weekend.

Found this site and might have one sourced. Hopefully it wont cost anything near €400!

Was there any symptoms prior to the motor failing??
Have had a few a4's where the spindles seize causing firstly a very slow movement.

It was working then must have got caught in a piece of ice. When I got out to clear the window area it was already gone... Prior to that tiny incident, I've had no troubles with it!

The Russian mechanic who has a workshop next door to me did one on a 02 E class merc yesterday, cost the customer E100. Part was E50 from a scrapyard and took about an hour to fit. And yes, he is a registered business and all above board.
I was in a scrapyard last week and there's plenty of audis around.

He's in Navan, might be a bit far for you, was just posting to give an idea of price.

Might be staring the obvious but have you checked the fuse and checked the nuts holding the wipers to the spindles?
My former boss got a written quote of over a grand for the wipers on his BMW 730 ( wipers, linkage, controller and labour) from a well known Dublin BMW dealer last Jan and his son found the nuts on the spindles loose.

I've only been to the one place and it wasn't even my regular mechanic. Ya see I live on the southside and my mechanic on the northside and due to work and weather I haven't been able to get over. Can't really be driving around with no wipers. . .

Will get a chance to fully look on Tuesday and hopefully asses the damage

Apologies for bumping this but I've just got off the phone with 7 different breakers, not one of them had one in stock or could direct me to somewhere.

I was told Traynors up north was good but again they have nothing and dont know when they will.

Someone posted a link to an e-bay page but I need to get this sorted ASAP as I can't drive if it rains/snows.

Would anybody know of any places that might have one?

    Thanks again for the help!!

Have you checked it isn't simlpy the linkage? Happened to me. I thought the motor was gone butt when I checked it out , the motor was going but the linkage was worn. A secondhand linkage solved it for €50 and it's actually easy to do.

Tons of A4s listed on partfinder.ie, up to 2009. Unless they are particularly troublesome and therefore in high demand, you shouldn't have much bother getting one. Most places will take credit card and will courier out (or will do COD), so don't limit the search to the Dublin area only. A half hour on the phone should get results !

The ones listed on Partfinder are ones I've already called. I hate that they say they have the part but dont. Will have to stretch my range a lot more

EDIT: Just sourced one from Donegal. Next day delivery too.

Thanks to all who replied, appreciate it
