Snare Drum Case Question

    Hi,

I am trying to get my boyfriend a hard case for his snare drum for Christmas. I was looking at the ones XMusic have and saw that there were different sizes. So I got a measuring tape and measured it across but it measured 15". Nowhere seems to have cases for a 15" snare drum - is it possible I measured it wrong?

This is a total surprise so I can't even ask him about it. It was hard enough finding out which one was the snare! Can anyone point me in the right direction for either measuring it correctly or where does cases this size?

Just measure the width of the head that's where the size comes from, don't include the snare mechanism etc, So it's probably a 14. Other than that you could buy a 15" Tom case rather than a snare case

Just to clarify (I am totally clueless about drums) the width of the head is like the skin part? So leave out the metal bit yeah?

Yeah, just the White, is whipping his snare and bringing it to the shop with you an option just to be sure ? 14" is the most common snare size but just to further complicate it on you the cases come in different depths to ...

Nah he'd definitely notice if it was gone! Might just try and measure the depth next time I'm up in his too. Thanks for the pointers!

Could always do it the other way then, buy a 14" standard case and bring it to the snare to measure on the sly b4 crimbo them change it if it's not big enough ...
