Hissing sound from brake pedal?

I noticed last night that when I press the brake pedal in the car I can hear a slight hissing sound. It sounds very similar to the sound a foot pump makes! I got an ABS warning light on about a week ago but it shortly went out agin so I didn't pay any real attention to it, would they be connected?

Is the hissing sound serious? Would it be safe to drive until I can get to a mech on monday or tuesday?

It could be a leaking servo - how does your brake pedal feel, is it any heavier than normal?

Have you checked your brake fluid level, to rule out any fluid leaks?

    No seems pretty normal

Just had a look there, the level is slightly down alright

Its a mk4 golf btw if that makes a difference!

It get it checked asap. Dont take your braking power for granted it slows a death machine down.

Air in the brake lines is not a good thing.

Is it hissing as you move the pedal or when the pedal is fully depressed?

*Air in the brake lines won't make a hissing noise, the pedal will just be spongey*

Its as I move the pedal! I was looking on the internet and it mentions the brake servo could be gone??

**Sorry captain slow, I see you mentioned that already in your first post!

It more then likely is the seal around the outside of the servo, and when you move the brake pedal it's not sealing and your getting the hissing sound.
More annoying then anything still ok to drive, but would get it checked out.
