Was there a meter in the taxi?

No there wasn't hey, there wasn't at all kiddd!!!....Which was quite strange hey!

That was probably a hackney which picked you up, in that case. As they are a private hire vehicle and they don't have a meter, it's up to passenger and driver to agree the fare so if you paid €30 then €30 it is and you have no comeback.

I don't know the workings of cab companies in that part of the world but €15 from Drogheda to Dundalk seems very cheap.

What the hell is wring with you?

And anyway, this is just an anecdote, may or may not be true.

He could have lawfully charged you a thousand euro and Wu would have to pay unless you had agreed a fare before setting off.

    You're trolling

Every one of your posts has been about Louth and typing this way with that stupid Louth accent

Just speak normally please. Accents don't have to be incorporated into the written word, that's one of the main advantages of written language.

It's just another sad case of that horrible accent getting to a man, and breaking him.

    37km - you got off cheap. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=FSSnMwMdTgqf_ykv9W6aIzpnSDGAvjGXqccACg%3BFWn5NwMdaUme_ynLasikH8xgSDGQdDGXqccACg&q=drogheda,+ireland+to+dundalk,+ireland&sll=46.471776,-41.446256&sspn=31.032975,73.652344&ie=UTF8&z=9&saddr=drogheda,+ireland&daddr=dundalk,+ireland

    Fare structure here: http://www.taxireg.ie/consumer/national-maximum-taxi-fare.html

    Hire including first km €4.10 = €4.10
    Next 14km @ €1.03 per km = €14.42
    Next 15km @ €1.35 per km = €20.25
    Next 7km @ €1.77 per km = €12.39
Total €51.56 + extra passengers, unsociable hours, etc.

At the time I didn't think I got off that cheap, because I once got a taxi up there for only 15 euro  ..... but with the information there in front of me, I can say I was lucky! :D

Well by your own admission you said there was no meter in the car, therefore the car that brought you home was not a taxi it was a hackney .Therefore the title of your thread is misleading and incorrect.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

And as it was a hackney the driver can charge as much as he likes unless the charge is agreed beforehand.

Also some companies will vary greatly in what they charge for the same journey! You should shop around.

It actually wasn't a hackney though, it was a normal nissan primera with a taxi sign at the top, you do realise that there is taxi services out there that charge you 'unfixed commission' don't you?!

So no, my thread title is perfectly fine(If you exclude the costs from the topic). :)

So it had a Taxi sign, but no meter? Why didn't you get out?

At this stage I think you are making this all up as there is no logic or sense to anything you have said yet.

First off you are telling us you got a €15 fare from one end of Louth to the other which ought to be several times that amount; next you are unable to tell us if you were in a taxi or a hackney. Now towards the end of it all you reckon it was a taxi with no meter and finally you say you got let off €21 off a €15.
    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
