So what did or didn't cut the mustard for you in 2010?
    My top 5 were...

four tet-there is love in you
    the knife-tomorrow in a year
    tame impala-innerspeaker
    deerhunter-halycon digest
    trentemoller-into the great wide yonder
and honourable mentions to LCD Soundsystem and the Black Keys.

overall I thought it was a bit of a 'meh' year musicwise, with lots of bands like midlake and mumford and sons droning on and sounding a bit dreary IMO. I liked the new Arcade Fire alright but it didn't really stick with me after I listened to it, and the same goes for Beach House's Teen Dream, which I had high hopes for, but turned out to have a real kick for the first few tracks and then petered out after.

    Thoughts!?

Arcade Fire, Beach House, Midlake, The National, Gorillaz, Foals, Goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem, Broken Social Scene, Jonsi, Kele

All great albums imo, 2010 was a goodun. If I had to pick one I'd go with Arcade Fire.

    Here's my top 5 of 2010

    1281456622-arcade-fire-the-suburbs.jpg

    1. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Lol predictable wasn't it? Well to be honest this was the album that defined 2010 for me, i'll have plenty of great memories attached to it. It's just a fantastic album from them, very much on par with Funeral. There's plenty of different styles and moods to be found on this album and it doesn't seem to drag despite it's long running time. Just an epic album.

    2. Beach House - Teen Dream
It took me a while to grow to love this album but it's a truly amazing listening experience. I just love immersing in those beautiful, dreamy soundscapes, a really great album to lose yourself in. I'm very interested to hear what they do next.

    3. Band Of Horses - Infinite Arms
By far their most accomplished and realised album to date. Songs like 'Laredo' and 'Dilly' show that this band has evolved while still staying true to their original sound. The band certainly sound like they're on the top of their game.

    4. School Of Seven Bells - Disconnect From Desire
I was confident that this album would be far better than it's patchy predecessor Alpinisms, and i was certainly far from disappointed. The band have really found their sound here on this album. The combination of electronics and guitars has never sounded better, and the vocals sound really amazing. A very addictive and memorable album.

    5. Alcest - Écailles de Lune
A seriously epic album. It's not quite as good as 2007's incredible Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde but it is truly an amazing album. What i really love about this album is the atmosphere, the music certainly lives up to it's awesome album cover. The combination of quiet instrumental passages, heavy guitars, hushed vocals, and haunting black metal screams make this album and amzing listening experience.

    Other albums worth mentioning:
    Butterfly Explosion - Lost Trails
    Autolux - Transit Transit
    Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
    The National - High Violet
The Depreciation Guild - Spirit Youth

Going to wait until the year is actually over.

Because December is a stellar month for albums.

    well no so much...

but i'd rather give albums that have been released in the last 4 weeks a proper listen and give them the same treatment as albums that were released at the start of the year.

i don't love every album on the very first listen, and i'd be fairly sure i'm not alone on that one...

for example these guys have an album just out, and i haven't been able to buy it,

it's a serious contender for irish album of the year and i like the above so the album may very well be in my list so i'd rather wait until i get a proper listen.

Agree with this. We normally run the Of the year vote from the 10/15th-30th. And i think it's only fair to give the few releases in dec as much time as possible.

Also i'm guessing a few people will have december gigs in the gig of the year section.

Favourite album: Foals - Total Life Forever. Was close between this and 'High Violet'. Ive never had an album grow on me like this has, songs like 'Alabaster' just get better with every listen.

Most Disappointing Album: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs. Expected a lot and and was pretty bored by it to be honest. Gets very little replay bar a few songs.

Top 10 of the year (can't limit it to 5, great year), in roughly the correct order…

I've embedded youtube links for examples.
    1. Gonjasufi – A Sufi and a Killer
    2. Women – Public Strain
    3. Four Tet – There is Love in You
    4. The Roots – How I Got Over
    5. Caribou – Swim
    6. Gorillaz – Plastic Beach
    7. Flying Lotus – Cosmogramma
    8. Lorn – Nothing Else
    9. The Books - The Way Out
    10. The Ex – Catch my Shoe

I’ll edit this if something better appears in the coming weeks, but considering I’ve left out a few other contenders already, it’s not likely.

Stop Pimping your blog on here. Next one and you're banned.

There are many other infinitely better irish bloggers out there that use boards and don't inflict their views on readers with every second post.
