I am in Prosperous now waiting since 7.45pm for a bus into Dublin but none are operating. Not the 120 123 or 121 yet according to the website they should all be running with delays. As per these wasters there is no number to ring for real information on what busses are running. Thank god for the IMF who might sort this wreck of a company out!

That doesn't even begin to make sense.

That doesn't even begin to make sense.
CLearly they are not providing the advertised services not even reduced services and maybe the situation with the economy might force some accountability and get some real value for money from all the CIE companies of which Bus Eireann is certainly not the worst.

While you found the time to log onto the internet to moan about the lack of information on delays you obviously neglected to log onto Bus Eireann's page on travel delays. On it they state early on today...

Route 120 Dublin/Edenderry 23.00 EX Dublin operating to Clane only.
    Route 121: Edenderry/Tullamore – Operating delays
    Route 123: Dublin/Clane – Operating with delays

    And an update timed 18:30...

    Route 120: Dublin/Edenderry – Operating delays
    Route 121: Edenderry/Tullamore – Operating delays
    Route 123: Dublin/Clane – Operating with delays

To be honest, if you are whinging about what are expected delays given the week we have had then you either have very little to worry about in life or else you have little empathy for the conditions that any public transport driver have dealt with all week, regardless of what vehicle they drive.

Why would they falsely claim services are operating albeit with delays when at least two consecutive busses from Edenderry were not operating? They obviously stopped the service early but want people thinking they are coping better than they actually are so failed to properly update their website.

Maybe those two consecutive buses did attempt to operate but where delayed/got stuck somewhere. In all fairness Bus Éireann have little control over the snow and resulting delays. There are other (private) bus companies in the same situation I doubt the IMF will have any influence in forcing them to be more accountable. Believe me I understand waiting for a bus in the snow can be frustrating but there is little anyone can do about it. These things happen. Regardless I'm sure past experience has shown that complaining about it on Boards is unlikely to get results, maybe afterwards you could write to Bus Éireann about the issue when you have time if you feel that strongly about it.

There is one bus an hour timetabled in and out of Prosperous in the evening so a wait of 1 hour and 15 minutes tonight isn't exactly excessively given the current weather issues.

But there was no bus at all from 7pm! Not what they say on the website!

Though you said that were at the bus stop since 7:45, you can be sure that a bus didn't come since 7

Plus you are allowing nothing for the weather which had wreaked havoc with road conditions this week nationwide.

I suppose if he were to adopt a factual thread title for his diatribe Foggy_Lad might have written..."No Bus Eireann service operated from Prosperous to Dublin between 19.45 and 21.15" (The time of posting)

As some other well intentioned posters have advised this is hardly surprising given the conditions and the advice as posted on the BE website (admittedly a clunky germanic yoke at the best of times).

However after starting-off with what many might accept as a reasonable complaint Foggy_Lad seamlessly slides into more familiar territory with these pithy observations.....
As per these wasters there is no number to ring for real information on what busses are running. Thank god for the IMF ( :D ) who might sort this wreck of a company out!

I`d imagine the IMF would study reports such as the recent Deloitte investigation into Bus Eireann and be guided by their observations, before moving right along to other area`s more deserving of their attention.

Transportuser09 sums it up fairly well in a post repeating some oft-given good advice...
You could write to Bus Éireann about the issue when you have time if you feel that strongly about it.

Or I suppose, since he has raised the issue, perhaps a line to the IMF themselves about this outrage might prompt a pre-emptive IMF strike on Broadstone !!!

There is an advertised hourly service and two at least were not running but the website which is updated every 20 minutes did not at any time reflect the cancellation of the services. Road conditions were good with little snow remaining but the road was icy in spots.

    So what did you do?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

I made a complaint to them but have not got any reply and not really expecting any as they dont seem interested in maintaining service levels if it inconveniences staff.

on wednesday the service finished early as all the late afternoon busses were driven out by drivers living in the Kildare/Offaly area so after they got to Edenderry instead of heading back to Dublin after their break they just drove home, i believe they did the same yesterday evening.

I meant - how did you get back from Prosperous? Did you stand by the side of the road for the entire night waiting for the elusive 120 or what did you do?

Given you seemingly live in Carlow, why were you going from Prosperous to Dublin at that late hour? Where did you go?

To be fair, it's nobodies business but Foggy's where he was going and why.

My problem with his post is his supposed knowledge of were the drivers live. He either talking nonsense or is being deeply creepy.

Honestly, I wouldn't reasonably expect a response until some time next week, and I wouldn't make a point of giving out about it until then either.
There are very few companies in Ireland where you could complain to them at 9pm on a Friday and expect a response by 6pm the next day.

I'd love to hear how they respond to your complaint.

Why would the IMF care that some bus services were disrupted by bad weather?

Bus Éireann do generally get back to customers who send them letters (their charter obligies them to do so). However even if their admin/managerial departments where open over the weekend my guess is they are too busy trying to keep on top of the snow distruption to give an immediate response on a complaint issue. Ages ago I sent them a query on a different issue and in fairness they did get back to me eventually.

one driver on the way out to Edenderry mentioned living in the area and that the driver in the busses in front and behind also lived in the general area so I know from this where they lived, but to be fair to the drivers I'd have to say if they got out to Edenderry and decided it was safer not to head back into Dublin I would trust their judgement but they will have let their controller know this and there is no reason the website could not have been updated properly and much more accurately!

As for why I was in Prosperous or anywhere else at that early hour or any other time MYOB!

Fair enough as to why you were there, but how did you get back? Did a bus appear?

I think the last thing you will be thanking this time next year will be the IMF it will be the Bus Eirenn driver putting you on the ferrie to England!!
