    Hi Lads,

I would appreciate if ye could sort me out, i live in rural north Cork and no line broadband is available from eircom, recently around the area Ripplecom posters have said their broadband is available in the area, i would like to hear your views on the service we currently have the 3 mobile broadband which is fine but is sometimes slow, i rang ripplecom and are seriously thinking about getting the 49.99 euro package which includes the phone line and up to 8mb download speed.

i would appreciate to hear the view of people who have the service and anything that would want to make me stay clear.

    Regards

    Patrick

I am with ripple (Ice Broadband) but will be changing from them in the near future. Their customer service does not exist if/when something goes wrong don't expect to be able to contact them about fixing the problem. They will fix it in there own good time and that could be in 1-2-3-4-5-6 weeks. They don't answer the phones if you ring customer services. If you ring sales they answer the phone straight away.

Search boards for what people think about ripple and 99% of the comments are not very good

    Thanks for the reply blade912
Would you recommend staying with 3 moblile broadband or is their any more options that i can look into? as i believe my choices are very very limited

It's hard to know what to recommend, if 3 is adequate for your needs then i would stay with them , Satellite broadband is an option but is expensive.

With ripple when the service is bad you get no internet at all and that could last a few days to a few weeks which can be very frustrating. I have reckoned in the last year between all the outages they have had, i have had no internet connection for over 13 weeks and in that time the customer service department won't answer the phone or respond to emails.

Try contacting Permanet-have them myself and never a problem, here's coverage map link http://www.permanet.ie/New/map.html

Thanks for that from their coverage map it seems we can get it alright il give them a call monday.

Do you have both the internet and telephone with permanet if so is getting rid of eircom advisable, can it be relied on for everyday use.

Just out of curiosity zerks could you test the speed of the internet from permanet from http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/, it would be interesting to see the difference.

With our 3 mobile broadband it seems to be about 650 kbps upload speed on average

Read up on permaNet too, IIRC they are not the bees knees either.

Amocom/Ripplecom was pretty good up until about May of this year, now it gets slow and doesn't work sometimes

Although they still are pretty good, I get 300k/s download speed most of the time, and it rarely disconnects. There's also no stated limit (I've downloaded 100Gb some months) and I haven't been throttled. Better than Three/satellite

I agree, the support doesn't exists and if you have a problem they never fix it on same day. Also they are not able to provide staticIP or possibility to RDA to your own pc from Internet. I have package 2MB for 39EUR but these days you can find much better deals! I'm switching the provider next week (sign up with Imagine)
