At the bottom of the page, two guys in a bar, one thinking:

"I think we both know where this is headed...

...but neither of us has a condom...

    ...Should I just risk it?...

    ...It could be unforgettable..."

    "BUT THEY'D NEVER FORGET HIV!"

I know it's for a good reason, but I was like WTF? :D

It was World AID's Day on 1st December so that probably had something to do with it.

I was reliably informed about a month ago that a "breeder" is a derogatory term for straight people, I'm sure you wouldn't like being called an "arse bandit".

Oh boy thanks OP, completely forgot I had HIV there. One thing I'll never forget though is the wild night I acquired it. What an unforgettable night.

Do people REALLY subscribe for that? I mean, they're the most uninvasive ads I've ever seen on any site, in fairness. :P

Anyway, I think the ad kinda encourages the misinformation that is only gay people get AIDS tbh...

Surely "breeder" is redundant since many straight people have no intention of ever breeding?

It's still a derogotary comment when made by a homosexual, a bit like the "n" word when used by white people.

Yeah, give nothing back to the site, even a tiny unobtrusive bit of screen real estate.

Are there straight folks out there who find this term offensive?

I imagine anybody who has kids would find the term breeders offensive.

    Obviously. It is offensive.

I'd say most people out there with kids are too busy with kids to find anything offensive

It's one of the worst insults I've ever heard and I don't mean that in the sense it's very insulting I mean it's very bad at being insulting so it's a bad insult.

If it needs to be explained to the person that what you have just called them was meant to be an insult it obviously wasn't very insulting.

It's impossible to insult straight people just like it's impossible to insult white people, just another benefit of being on top of the food chain.

No it doesn't. As has already been mentioned there are the same ads aimed at straight people.

Does it? Does it really? Or are you going out of your way to be offended?

"Breeders" is an insulting term. But that's not important. What's important is that The Breeders are awesome.

    I LOVE YOU KIM!!

....wait what was thread about again?

    I can't say I'm offended.

    Yes, obviously.

Well, if I turned around and called a gay guy an "Arse Bandit", I'd get a slap and rightly so.

But if a gay guy calls me a "breeder" I'd be at a bit of a loss, was that an insult or a compliment?

I mean, if you're going to be a twit at least throw some wit into it no?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭Daemos

It's hardly an insult if it's true

Yeah im not offended either - its one of the worst attempts at trying to offend a group of people I've ever heard; I'd be more offended if I was associated with the person who came up with this apparent "insult." Yes, straight people do breed, its not a bad thing. Sort of like a woman saying to a man "you have a cock, haha" and trying to make it sound insulting when it actually isn't.

I'm offended by your use of the word 'straight'. It's offensive to all those people with curvature of the spine.

Lol, 'breeder' is an insult against straight people? Hands up (or just post) if you're straight and take offence at being labelled as somebody who can reproduce. Anyone?

There's a difference between "someone who can" and "someone who does".

You don't call someone walking a "cyclist", do you ?

So if "breeder" is used to refer to someone who could reproduce (but doesn't want to / doesn't have a partner) then technically "breeder" could be used for gay people too.

I mean, cattle breeders don't necessarily let bulls and cows have sex, and gay people could donate.

So it's a pathetic and inaccurate comment, tbh, and shows absolutely no sense, either in terms of a dig or in terms of creativity as an insult.

Not really, but not out of fear of insulting them :P

    Confusing 'insult' alltogether.

That's the point - "breeder" isn't an insult either - it's just inappropriate and stupid, showing whoever uses the term up as an idiot.

EDIT : I suppose the same could be said for the "yore ma" or the ridiculous "owned" crap, so I'd guess that it really just shows them up as being devoid of any intelligence to actually come up with something relevant themselves.

My Aul Man wrote this letter
    Dear Sir or Madam,

Regarding your poster displayed in the doctors waiting room about aids, I would like to apply for aids straightaway. I have been on the dole for the past ten years and I have been on supplementary bemefit and every other state benefit I could get. It now seems that I will be getting state aid for sex. Its a pity aids has come so late as I already have fifteen children. I wonder will you be making any back payments?. Your poster states that the more sex I have, the more chance I have of getting aids. My biggest problem here is persuading my wife, who is not so keen after fifteen children. Several years ago I bought some aids but she showed little interest and they were hardly ever used. Would there be any chance of a refund for the money I paid for these gadgets?. Anyway I will now explain to her that the Goverment will be paying for all the sex we have. We cant let a chance like this slip by.

You also state that I can pass my aids on but you will understand that with a wife and fifteen children to feed there wont be much left to pass on. If by chance there is a litte bit,I will pass it on to my poor old mother-in-law. I understand from your poster that I can get aids from a blood transfusion, and I intend writing to my local hospital to see if I can get one. Will the aid I get from the hospital be deducted from the aid I get from you?. Perhaps you will write and let me know. I am a firm believer in getting every aid from the country I can get, and Im sure you will agree that by my recent performances I do qualify for this one. Could you let me know how much I will get each time and will it be weekly or monthly payments?. Your advert is great. Please let me know as fast as you can because I cant wait to get started.Your very dear friend. Paddy.
