Improving performance "debates"

There seems to be an interest in getting more discussion about training at a slightly higher level going. And done right it wouldn't have to be exclusive - the recent Q&A with Bazman was very valuable and had contributions from people of all levels.

So I was thinking about having a Ted.com style series on here. We could invite a respected poster to write a post on a given topic and then we have a questions and answers/debate after it. MCOS on how to make the most of your training, thirty-foot on speedwork, Mick on ultra running, Condo on masters running and training, KC on how to improve, Tungsta on how to run long - that's six weeks of high quality threads, advice & debate off the top of my head.

What do people think, any suggestions or volunteers to do the first one?

A great idea for livening up the forum amadeus - it must be the vibes from the Chelsea Hotel getting the creativity going. Look forward to the first one. Hope the debates can include at least one field event

That would be a great idea. Would Tingle write something on speed endurance?

Not a bad Idea at all, might make for some good reading one thing to add there are other runners on here that could also add alot, some very fast 800m-5k runners that could give some good imput, but maybe been coached by clubs. There was a QandA thread here before written by posters that was good reading. Would be nice to get coaches posting also and not jsut runners.

    Sounds like a great idea.

Excellent. Condo has already volunteered to write something so that will get us kick started. Having thought about it I won't be able to babysit it through because of the other site but it should run in the way the old "in the well" threads ran - once it had run for a week the expert should nominate the next thread subject and it will run itself from there.

:eek::eek: What have I got myself in to!!:eek::eek:

How do you follow Bazman and Enduro??? I honestly don't where to start.

As a preamble, I have several running hats - Masters runner (running 27 years), Race Director, Measurer, 'half assed' coach (must submit my level 2 folder!) ...and whatever else I'm roped into. I was never a great runner - at best I'd have called myself a "handy" club runner, but never a contender, so that'll influence the Q&A.

What do people want Q&A on? Running? RD? Measuring? or all 3? None of the above??:D:):P

Condo, I think many on here would appreciate an insight into race organisation/directorship. So for starters
    • What is the most time-consuming aspect of the job?
    • What are the biggest headaches?
    • With regard to the endless debate about value for money, can you give us an idea of the major costs involved in putting on a big race.
    • What single initiative would help RDs most in promoting and organising races throughout the country?
    Thanks
