ok,have an iphone 4 since september and quickly realised what eats the battery (leaving apps open, screen waaaay too bright, leaving wifi on when its not needed etc)

in the beginning my battery would last for about 8.5-9 hours with moderate use,i fiddled and tweaked push notifications, screen brightness etc etc and managed to get about 12 hours out of the battery, had to re-set my phone last week and since my battery life has gone way down again, approx 8.5-9hours again with the same settings & notifications adjusted...why!!??!!

any other major battery drainers im missing out on?
tis a pain having to mind my usage when i dont have a car charger.

are you double clicking the main button to see all open apps, and then closing the ones you're no longer using?

Download battery doctor and charge it up from empty when Battry Doctor is open. Seems to reset the battery. Works for me anyway.

Mine has gone to **** since the latest software update. In the past if I closed everything before bed there would be zero battery drain, now it's at least 20%.

I am loosing about 7% per night - fairly consistently but last week i was loosing about 12/13% lately.

If you're jailbroken download auto3g - few dollars. Basically everytime you lock you're phone it switches the phone to 2g and as soon as you unlock it it sticks 3 g back on within seconds. Not much else customizable on it as in you can't tell the phone only to use 2g on calls but given the fact that most peoples phones are on standby a lot this has to help. If you want to try it just turn off 3g on you're phone overnight and see what kind of drain you get. If its less than before then auto 3g is the biz -

IMO auto 3G is crap for use during the day and makes very little difference

anyone else bar the previous poster who'd recommend it??

ok,bit of an update on this...

been searching the net on stories/user reviews relating to battery drain on the iphone 4...

it seems that charging your phone while its in a case of any sort makes the battery hot and it thinks its more full than it is (i could see this being plausable enough,is it?)
but a tip i saw was to let the phone go dead 0% battery and then charge to 100% without a case on the phone.

last week i was using about 60-70% of my battery in about 8 hours of moderate enough use, today from a full charge ive used 23% in 11 hours with probably more that moderate use.

    conicidence?

Have iPhone 3 for two years, new iP4 a few weeks. My battery is pretty impressive.

However, over the years, I've found my battery to go nuts after every update, necessitating two or three resets of the iP.

Some rogue apps used to stay active in the background and just gobble up battery power, force closing them was necessary.

A poor reception area for either 3G or WiFi increases battery drain in use too.

Fetch can cause a few problems for a similar reason to above, but otherwise would have no great effect.

I've everything running on my iPhone and so far am very impressed with the battery life, I do recharge every night.
