    Hi All

Hope you can help, I went dentist last week and he said I need to get all 4 wisdom teeth up as not enough room in mouth and they coming up but getting stuck so food is getting trapped under gum.

The dentist is referring me but said its roughly 500 a tooth. Should I be shopping around or is this the price it is? I have medical card but he said you could be waiting ages, does anybody know how long to wait?

Sorry if these questions have been asked, tried looking back but could only see stuff from 2006/7 on google search

Hi Fitzgem, thanks for reply to my post sorry my mistake didnt really understand OP problem thought similar to getting wisdom extracted.
I just deleted it as my reply was not relevant to OP query as I didnt want to confuse OP.

Some wisdom teeth are easy to remove and a dentist can do them, some are impacted or stuck in the jawbone and require surgical extraction by an oral surgeon. Most people lump all wisdom teeth together. A 100 euro extraction would be for a standard simple extraction.

Have the same problem! I have two impacted lower wisdom teeth. I went to dentist before chrismas and he put me in contact with an oral surgeon in the area (dublin south). My VHI wont cover a general anaestetic (priv hosp) and only 60% of the procedure under sedation. So I asked VHI about the hospital and procedure cover they said they may not cover the procedure at all and its up to their discression! (they said something about underlining conditions arent covered up to to 5years). I am a student and cant afford to cover the procedure if the VHI declines to cover me after I had the procedure done.
I decided to go on the public waiting list but unsure if i will make a year without getting decay or infections. Is the public list long and does it cost?

500 per tooth!!!!! RIP OFF IRELAND still alive and kicking.

I'd say you could get it done @ around 140 per tooth

Really you think a specialist oral surgeon will extract lower impacted wisdom teeth with a risk of nerve damage under sedation or GA for 140 euro. Take X-rays and preform post operative visits?

Just because you thinks its expensive does not mean it is, as you seem to have little idea of the work involved in this procedure, this is not a standard extraction with a general dentist.

I got 2 taken out last year under GA (roots were too close to nerves etc to risk standard dentist extraction).

Fully covered by Quinn (apart from €200 excess and €150 for X-Ray). As far as I remember - it was about €2,000 for surgeon and anaesthetic. Bulk of cost was for anaesthetic.

Little idea? I had the work done so I think that qualifies me to have an idea of how much it costs since I paid for it.....

You had impacted lower surgical wisdom teeth extractions under sedation with a specialist oral surgeon for 140 euro???? Just a dentist myself and even in china you would spend more, I suggest they were standard wisdom teeth under la by a general dentist. The other was you paid a consult and vhi Paid the rest.

Post the name of this clinic I will suspend the no names rule to share this revelation
