    Hi all,
My friend is getting UK tv from a freesat reciever and gets RTE analogue through her aerial, but the analogue signal has been getting a lot of interference from a Garda mast affecting the television reception.
My question is, if she buys a Saorview STB will the interference from the mast still cause problems to the digital reception or is it only on analogue?

What she needs to install is a TETRA filter after her aerial, this filters out the frequencies used by the Gardai. How do you know it's the Gardai mast that is causing interference?

often caused by wideband amps as installed by dodgy aerial installers so get a tuneable or narrowband amp.

how does she know it's the Garda mast? Though both posters are correct about Tetra.

Because the problem has been admitted by the Garda. But can she get away with the Saorview box as it is the cheaper option?
    Thanks for all replies.

It's not possible to say if a saorview box will work properly it depends on what channel saorview is broadcasting on in your area and if there is interference on that channel.

It's also not possible for the gardai to say what is causing interference on your friends television system. Only that it might be the cause. It could be any of a number of problems.

The interference isn't on the TV band at all actually. So if there is no Mast/Aerial Amp the Saorview will work.

Either she has a poor or faulty mast head pre-amp that needs removed or replaced or it's a very old poor TV.

Poor quality mast or preamps or distribution amps don't reject the Tetra signal and it overloads the amplifier and "cross modulates" all the TV signals, Analogue and Digital.

A Modern Analogue TV or the Saorview receiver connected to the aerial with NO aerial pre-amp should be OK.
