iPhone Docking Station

    Should all iPhone docking stations charge the phone,just I got a Goodmans GCR1870i as a gift and it will play music but it won't charge the phone :confused:

    Apple changed the pins on the dock connector when they dropped support for FireWire for iOS devices in 2008. So some older docking stations won't charge newer devices. The GCR1870i isn't showing up as a product on a search on the Goodmans site, so I assume it's an older model. A quick google image search seems to show product shots of it with the first generation iPod nano, which was available in 2005/2006, again indicating that it's from that time.

    You can get a converter to allow you to charge newer devices with older docks:

    EDIT: You could get one. Seems that it's been discontinued. Maybe others are still making similar products.

    All iphone/ipod touch docking stations should charge both.
    But not all docking stations are for iphone/ipod (even if they paly music from them)
