what lamp would you recommend for foxing, i have a deben tracer 2million cp for scanning the fields but i'd like something for the top of the rifle,

i like the look of the led lenser's lamps as they look tidy when mounted onto the rifle, but for this some reason i don't like the way the light force looks when mounted, or the thought of having to take it off when putting the gun away,
what kind of range would be expected from a scope mounted light,

i've look'd at (what i thought to be) a p7 lenser and felt very let down by the performance, i also didnt like the way you couldn't lock the head of the torch when playing with the spread of the light,
i've been told that a lamp is different when looking through a scope and that i don't need a big light from a scope mounted torch but i'm not sure and need to be convinced,
also would a motorbike battery be good enough to run the deben when out in the field, and if so what amp hour would i need to go for,

sorry for the long winded story and thanks for taking the time to read it all

    My opinion...

You would be best off with a lightforce 170 Striker. I know, you said you don't like them.

I would not put put much faith in someone telling you don't need much light. To initially spot the fox, and track him coming in, then they're correct, less light is certainly better.

But, for taking the shot you need to be able to clearly see what you're shooting at, and just as important, what's behind it. The trouble with this is that not every fox is going to want to come in real close to you, for whatever reason, wary, not hungry, horny :pac:

Any 12v sealed lead acid rechargeable battery will power a 12v lamp, motorbike will be fine, but there's a guy on Ebay selling them at good prices. I put up a link recently in another post. Chargers as well. The amp will depend on what Wattage bulb you go for, I'd go 22amp+ for 75W & 100W bulbs as a minimum if you like having the lamp on a lot like me. Get a dimmer as well.

I have an EagleTac T100C2 Mark II torch myself. It would be fine for out to 120 yards or so, but no farther. Clivej has some experience with other scope mountable torches.

And then there is that green laser jobbie.... :pac:

    Hello John.

Where did you get the Eagletac from and what sort of money was it.

How do you use it in your set up, do you mount it or carry it just as a normal flashlight.

If you wanted to mount it does it come with the mount or is this an extra.

    Many thanks.

I use the LF 140 scope mounted, I would say it's not far off the 170 (if you would prefer something a bit smaller).

If you can buy one WITH dimmer, all the better. I bought a deben dimmer to fit afterwards and it didnt work. and they Aren't cheap!

Hane a look on dinodirect.com or dealextreme.com, lot of torches, various lumen sizes, look fairly cheap. There was a thread on here by a guy who has one of these rifle mounted and he seems to be doing ok with it. Lightforce great BUT size, awkward, humping heavy batteries abour, wires everywhere.

    Also Google XLR250 light.

There must be a better way than carrying around kilos of gear!!
