Driving through the early morning snow in Meath this morning.
It doesn't look very exciting, but it was some grim driving conditions, especially when I turned off the main road.

    Roadhawk, anyone?
    Okay a blatent bump.

I look at that video now and it looks so boring, but the commute home that morning was anything but boring.
When I hit the back roads, my seat contact area was puckered a lot.
I actually did get stuck not too far from my house, luckily a tractor pulled me out.

dosent sound like a great idea, esp if you are holding a video phone/camera in one hand while driving with the other

I wasn't holding anything( except both hands lightly on the steering wheel ). Camera wedged onto the dash. A lot of people are fitting "in car camera" technology now, mainly for court cases but also just for, well, interesting video.(unlike mine)

Systems like below. Which incorporate a mapping system also.

if you have an android phone, you can get an app for it called Autoguard Blackbox that works like a cross between a blackbox and sky+.

it works in conjunction with your gps, camera & accelerometers to 'buffer' a set amount of info constantly whilst you are driving and will detect the sudden shock of an accident and then save the previous 5 minutes (or whatever you tell it to) of video and the next 1 minute after the crash to disk. there's also a one touch manual record function to record near misses (or whatever) any time you want to even after they'e happened, with the same previous few minutes options, or even a record constantly option if you want to relive the exciting journey home. :pac:

get yourself a dash/windscreen mounted mobile phone holder that allows you to keep your camera lens free (€25 in halfords, or €10 on ebay) and the free autoguard app and you're all set.

there's even a pro version with more features like background recording so you can still use your navigation at the same time, night video mode (on supported phones) and better quality/resolution and other advanced features if you have a decent spec phone and decide you want it. i have the desire HD, so 720p widescreen recording is possible and (imho) the pro version is well worth the €1.50 it costs to purchase it.

i'm already fighting the temptation to post up prime examples of road going eejitry on youtube for all to see. :pac:
