Every winter I grow to appreciate the Focus that bit more. Runs like clockwork, internal heater works fast, the heated screen is genius, the ESP works quietly in the background, I could feel it braking one of the wheels on a roundabout this morning, even before I could feel the car let go. This after years a big German RWD cars that could go nowhere in this weather.

I have a 1.4 petrol Focus as a loaner at the moment. I usually drive an S-Max.

The Focus interior is really, really horrible compared to the S-Max. Everything is made from cheap, nasty plastic except the wheel, which is covered in cheap, nasty leather. I haven't been in a cabin this crappy since I last sat in a Japanese car.

Everyone said I was mad when I bought my 06 CMax (1.8 TDCI) and I was called a soccermum (not even the right gender) on more than one occasion and what I want that mammy mobile, etc...
It has been nothing but brilliant, apart from a burst pipe between turbo and injectors pump (easily fixed) not a single thing wrong with it, has good power, great driving position, very comfy, heated screen is brill, good handling, does between 47-50 mpg, the stereo is loud enough to hear Smoke on the Water three block away, the interior is a nice place to be and so on and so forth.
So far it's done 160k km (100k miles) with just a standard service when due, yep, greatest car I've ever driven and I've driven a few.
And it has great traction in the snow.
