    Hello folks,

I get a small Christmas bonus and am looking at purchasing a new laptop for gaming :)

I have had a Dell laptop for almost four years now, never once had a problem, I payed alot for it back in the day, but I can still play games on it now (albeit not the newest ones) I have need of two, I have a hike to work in the morning with my laptop so I wanna leave my current one in work and have one at the house for games :). Some people would advise a desktop but I also wanna take it when I go home to Galway at the weekends etc etc :)

Now my Price range, I would like to keep it under 2000 if possible, I have considered Alienware but for the price you can get another model much much cheaper with the same specs.

I have boiled it down myself to these two

    Asus x6
for a nice price of 1,300

However I am more inclined to splash out on this beast ( 8g of ram, 1.5 gig graphics ) When I find the link I will put it here , For some reason UCD does not give me access to it today !! Which costs about 1700 to 1800

    EDIT
    Linky for it !
Also Can some one tell me if it would be worth upgrading to this for the extra price or no ?
    EDIT

I think that the more expensive one also comes with a gaming mouse, but the extra 400-500 is for the extra RAM and Video card basically everything else is practically the same.

    Regards
    GO_Bear !

just had a look at the asus for a minute and it looks the business but there is no mention of resolution, but with that gfx card it should be high and maybe too high for that screen size

    the 1st link

the graphics card is high end, but for a 15+ screen it seems over kill...and with an i7 processor is looks very good.

if it was me i would get a 17" with that kind of a graphics card

Well the 460M and the 5730 are in different leagues. The 5730 is slightly better then the 5650 and sits at the top end of mid class cards.
The 460M is a dedicated gaming card and would be more suitable to compare with the 5870.

TBF gpu performance is going to go one what games you want to play, what detail settings you expect and what minimum fps you require.

The gaming performance of Linky for it ! will actually be better than Also Can some one tell me if it would be worth upgrading to this for the extra price or no ?
as it has a lower native screen resolution. However a 1080p screen is sexy in gaming, watching blu-ray etc ... its going to come down to personal preference!

Cheers mate that is very helpful , I would like to play the current high end games ! but also one that will last for at least 2/3 years ,

Will the cheaper one really out preform the more expensive one , even though it has half the ram and a lower memory card due to the resolution ? does it affect it that much

the 460M is a no brainer, its one of the highest end cards going at the moment.

I have a 9800GT sli and it is fast.. but the 460M is better than it, has a newer process technology, and would consume less heat.

if you want to play games, this would destroy the other laptop.

Just to throw another spanner in the works

    http://www.gamingonlaptops.com/2010/11/msi-gt680-gx680-intel-sandy-bridge-processors/

Quad cores will a get a big boost in performance, and it will be nice to have a gaming machine with battery life!
