    http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/

If you're procrastinating and have nothing better to do would you like to rate our site for us?

Looking to see what people think of it. How easy is it to use and get information from? What do you like/dislike about it? What would you change? What would you keep if a new site was to be made? Should we keep it or make a new one?

Any thoughts at all are greatly appreciated!

From a quick glance, I like it. It's well laid our and works well on Chrome and my iPod Touch. I like the wiki updates and twitter boxes :) A few very small things:

    * The webchat and putty icons seem to fade too much into the background on my laptop screen.

    * The bottom line of the text in Week 3 box is cut-off by the bottom of the box itself in Chrome (pic attached).

    * The front screen of the webmail and gallery sub-sites should be skinned to match the site.

    * Pages like Virtual machines really shouldn't be linked to from the bottom of every page until they contain something more useful :P

    * The link to the SPC website is 403/Forbidden.

    * The link to a Wiki article from the Latest Wiki Updates box brings you to a diff page on the wiki instead of the page itself.

The font choice could be a bit easier on the eyes, on my screen the title fonts for 'Week 10' and 'Events for your calendar' are badly aliased, also the words in the 'Webchat' 'Webmail' etc .pngs are difficult to read at higher resolutions.

Capitalisation is a bit all over the place at the bottom of the page.

It's pretty much grand as it is.

There's a bunch of small problems, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little tweaking.

There's certainly no reason to build a new site. The overall design and layout is grand.

It seems like Redbrick build a new website every other year, but there's genuinely no reason to do that this time.

I'm not so sure about the content on the homepage really - at first I thought it was meant to be similar to a calendar the way it lists week 10, 5, 3 etc but you have why join in a similar section *shrugs*

If the main aim is to push the events then maybe consider having it fully planned out with the current week in the middle and the upcoming weeks in the side bar.

One of Shea's events campaigns had started out with posters that changed colour and a small part of the design week to week which I thought was really nice at the time - sadly only lasted about 6 weeks :( Since you are using the bold colours already coudl incorporate that into your posters etc.

Or if it is latest news etc then keep the calender on the sidebar or such.

Hi, Webmaster of RedBrick here :)

This is actually my fault, I'd forgotten how much text the boxes could hold when I was writing that post and completely forgot about it, thanks for reminding me.

Gallery is so terribly broken and old that it'd be too much effort to reskin, I will probably be committing the gallery to the ages soon, but the webmail page skinning is definitely something I'll keep in mind :)

What page is this linked to on could you tell me? If I can find it, that'll take me two seconds to rectify.

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming :)

Sure thing, it's on this page.

They do and it used to bug me too until I remembered that that's what Redbrick (and every other society) is there for - to learn. If someone gets experience building a website that lots of people use (and criticise), I'm happy with a new one being done every year.

One thing I can say in your favour is at least you know what the "C" in DCU stands for...

The inconsistent capitalisation is pretty irksome and just looks sorta lazy because it's so very easy to fix. And the fact that there are different options under the same headings at the bottom and on the dropdown menus at the top is kinda confusing.

Also I always liked the idea of having random gallery pictures on the sidebar, especially when it's as big a gallery as Redbrick's. I don't know if Redbrick use their twitter but a feed on the side could be informative if you do. I don't think it would hurt the design too much to make it a little longer.

    Mostly it's fine though.

You are down far to often! fair enough the Hub Management is screwing all the societies over in terms of moving your server room but many a time i've tried to email the society list and no cos RedBrick is down. again, not a slight on you guys cos you do a lot for all the societies in terms of hosting and web/email management.

I'd recommend following our twitter(RedbrickDCU) or joining our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_167418566612957) so that you're up to date on any downtime notices. That way you could plan around it. As far as we can tell there should be no more issues next semester as work around that are of the Hub seems to be finishing up but unfortunately we can't guarantee that. I can't think of any reason at the moment why there'd be major downtime in the near future. *fingers crossed*
