I have google maps sat nav on my 2.2 android phone, is there a way I can cache the whole of Dublin maps over my wi-fi, trying not to use data over phone carrier. Idea being I download cache the maps. In theory google maps sav would pick up lacation over gps and navigate using the cached maps

Brut maps should work, I don't think you need to be rooted...

I don't think it's possible with Google Maps. I have mapdroyd which allows you to download maps and use GPS - but it doesn't do navigation I think. Otherwise it's a great app (can download maps for whatever country you like, handy for holidays). Another option is co-pilot, as far as I remember it allows navigation but it's not free.

Ah, sorry. It won't install if you already have Maps as a system app.
