So far the only online retailer that is fully compliant is Komplett.

    http://www.komplett.ie/

I have queries out with others and will update this thread as I get answers.

    Richer Sounds are compliant.

If you order through RicherSounds.ie ( which is in Belfast) they will not take your money and ship a telly down south that will not tune Irish DTT, eg Panasonics and Freeview MPEG2 spec tellys.

    You are also safe there.

Power City are now compliant Online. I am not sure what is still in the shops but the ranges they sell Online are Irish DTT compliant.

Which one of the Panasonic year 2010 range is mpeg2 only?

The problem is that many Panasonics that have MPEG4 don't work properly. Why would anyone risk buying Panasonic with so many other good sets to choose from?

The question was about the year 2010 Panasonic range and not the 2008/2009 ranges.
Btw what is the difference between a UK Freeview HD device from a other manufacturer and a Panasonic device which mention UK Freeview HD compatibility?

It should be OK, but Panasonic have a very bad track record, are totally in denial about the issue. Why trust them? They could do something stupid in their Firmware.

This thread is about the online retailers not the manufacturers. Nowhere was it said that Panasonic were Mpeg2

I get where you are coming from on this. If it meets the Freeview HD spec then there is nowhere to hide.

Well the Panasonic TX-L42D25L range is an "Irish" model.

Guess what they shipped it with. MHP. Guess what. There is no UK settings to switch it to MHEG5. Why's that ? Because they grouped us with other European Countries for MPEG4, but neglected to turn on the MHEG5 engine in the firmware.

This model came out in the middle of this year. You know that minimum spec document that RTE stuck up on the web in mid 2008 ? The one that says the min spec for IDTVs etc ? RTE might as well just burn it.

Panasonic (CEDA member!!! ) etc blah blah blah

The problem with FreeviewHD compatibility with Saorview is that it is not certified. The FreeviewHD is based on the British D Book, which is secret. Some manufacturers will comply with all standards that they can, others, like Panasonic, choose to hobble their products to a particular market. Unless their is agreement with RTE NL to make sure that their broadcasts will always comply with the British D book, as well as Nordig, then, at some time in the future, some products will not comply. Not a problem for the likes of Philips who will upgrade the firmware, but Panasonic do not do upgrades.

Buyer beware. Freeview HD is not certified for use on Saorview. It works for now, mostly. I was delighted to get the Picnic at a knock down price, but, please Sir, it doesn't work any more!

Sorry, but the retailers cannot change what the manufacturers make. The need to drop non-compliant makes, but that is not easy because the specs are inaccurate. UK products, like Sony, do not have a correct specification on line, showing the products as not having MPEG 4 when it is in the telly. I saw, recently, a Sony TV for sale in M&S that the model was at least two years old and that did not have MPEG 4. That kind of thing is disgraceful. It was also overpriced, so those that think that because it is expensive, it must be good, are going to buy a pup. (You get what you pay for.)

    M&S are to be avoided.

Can we stick to naming compliant online retailers Sam, thanks. Start another thread on non compliant online retailers...by all means.

PM the mods to move the OT posts to an "Manufacturers' Compliance" Thread

i know things were different 2 years ago than they are now..

but what happened to those people who bought tvs that worked with the irish dtt then and dont work now?
    especially the panasonics
there were a lot of pz81 for example shipped down south which were purchased in the period when i bought mine

Two years ago the spec was MHEG5 and MPEG4. You ensure compliance by spec, not connection to an Aerial. The Flags are part of DVB spec when MPEG4 is used.

Nearly Three years ago the spec was published. Feb 2008 to Feb 2011 = 3 years

It's very bad. Evidence of duplicity and massive product dumping.
