Ok im looking to start learning to play the guitar. Problem is im left handed.
Ive come across the Rodeo left handed guitar on a website called guitar-warehouse.com

Its only 75 euro and sounds like it would be a good guitar to get started.

Anybody got any opinions on what I should do?

In general really cheap guitars like this can be troublesome in terms of their ability to stay in tune and their action. Is there no chance you could get to a shop and check some out? (I'm a lefty too so I know it's hard to find lefty guitars!).

If you are going to go ahead and order it, check out their returns policy carefully and make sure you can get it back to them if it's not right.

Having said that, some people would say to go ahead and buy cheap in case you dont keep it up, others would say dont buy cheap as it might put you off playing!

My advice is to keep looking around, preferably in shops as you can get a fell of how the guitar sits in your hand.

I'm a lefty as well and if you're just starting out, I would strongly advise trying to play right-handed. I did it unconsciously when I started playing. In fact, I didn't even realise left-handed guitars existed until I found my father's lefty guitar buried in the garage and wondered why the strings were on upside down :). You'll have a far greater range of instruments available to you and, in a jam or a live situation, you'll be able to swap instruments with others easily.

For a starter guitar I would go with a well-known budget brand like Squier or Epiphone. Once you're sure you want to keep up the guitar you can look into buying something better.

No man I have had guitars available to me and love playing the guitar but I havent learned to play properly because I hate playing right handed.
Think I will go ahead and chance the rodeo.

Fair enough, if you've tried playing right-handed and it doesn't work for you then go with playing left-handed and good luck with it :).

i've been looking out for a lefty on adverts for a mate there for a while and no sign, Freya guitars, to be found on a thread search here have what seems to be a nice acoustic for 125 but he was awaiting delivery of lefties, he has got a good review on here last i read so maybe look him up.
I agree with gaspode in that too cheap is really not up to it, i think the freya would be a surprise to be really nice at that price but would bet it beats the rodeo.

anyways best of luck to you and get a few lessons to point you on yer way!;)

If you do go with the Rodeo post a comment about its quality of sound and how easy it is to play please. I'm interested in getting a cheap guitar just for sing songs etc

I bought one of those Rodeo lefties and I have to say I really like it. I just wanted to get something cheap to bring when travelling etc. but they are really nice for the money, low action and a nice sound, and stays in tune quite well. I'm thinking of learning bass next and saw a nice 5 string from the same site: http://www.guitar-warehouse.com/product_detail.asp?ProductID=173
Has anyone any opinions on these Stellah basses?

I've tried one of these guitars. They're great value for money. The pickups can be a bit muddy at high gain though but i've heard worse from far more expensive guitars. They stay in tune and they're quite playable guitars overall.

Do people tend to pay over the odds for left handed guitars?

A left-handed model can be about 10% more expensive, sometimes a bit more. A company can safely assume they will sell more of the right-handed version so they will produce more of it, bringing the average unit cost down a little bit compared to the left-handed model.

It's not tooo much of an issue nowadays, started playing left handed 10 years ago as it was 100% better than playing right handed and never looked back, but it's grand being a leftie nowadays, prices are pretty much the same too

Here's some of my left handed good-ness

Got a nice starter leftie for 150 yesterday.

Made by a company called SX.
The action seems to be nice and low.

Checking the internet, I could have got it for about 20 less, but if I get a couple of years out of it, then that doesn't bother me to much.

I agree playing leftie is much better, holding the plec is so much like holding a pen.
One worry that I have is that if I am ever with friends, and someone takes out a guitar, I won't be able to play if it is a righty

Or you can pick it up and play it lefty and impress 'em even more!

Pretty simple to change a few chords around when playing a righty as a left-hander, you're not going to be impressing the balls off of anyone, just whippin' out a few 3-4 chord progressions, can easily be done by a lefty on a righty guitar off the cuff!

Or if theres a party that your hosting, you have an excuse not to let anyone play your guitars.

I've an sx guitar I put together from parts and they don't seem that bad to play for the price, sound isn't amazing but playability on the one I have at least ain't half bad

But yea on the lefty thing I'm a big fan of playing whichever way is natural
