Waterford City DTT Aerial question

If an indoor aerial works, that will work. But it's a waste of money as a €6 aerial works just as well. It's likely you need an aerial in the attic unless a window in the room of the indoor aerial faces the transmitter and nothing large is blocking the signal.

Are you saying that some outdoor aerials only cost €6? That's good value isn't it?

    No. Talking about INDOOR aerials

I'm saying there is no point in paying €15 to €70 for an INDOOR aerial, as NO indoor aerial is much use unless signal is very good, in which case a knitting needle 6" (15cm) long may work. There is litte difference (but some) between €2 and €12 indoor aerial, and no advantage at all to more expensive ones than €6 to €14 "mini" yagi indoor aerials as pictured on above links (the kind with flat part at stand, 3 rods in front and 1 to 4 reflector rods.)

You can get the "loop + two telescopic rods" aerial for €2. Works almost as well as ANY Argos or Tesco internal aerial, the Dual Band "Rabbit's Ears" (the original with no loop is for VHF only). The Rods are for VHF TV and Radio (will do FM or DAB) and the loop is a very poor horizontal polarlised UHF aerial.

DTT (Digital) is all on UHF. There is no such thing as a Digital Aerial, Digital Amplifier or versions for "HD".

Cheers for your detailed reply Watty.

I was wondering because i am so close to the City in-fill and i have read that Waterford city has excellent coverage a set-top might suffice.

I will pick up a really cheap Aerial and try it i guess :)

Oh who sells the 2 euro aerials?

The sort places that sell all kinds of things at €2 :)

You're a bit better with the €6 to €12 range "mini" yagi than the €2 "rabbit's ears with loop"
