So long as its to Superman what Zimmer/Newton Howard was to Batman rather than Goldenthal, I won't mind too much.

The Superman theme is iconic and very much suited to what that Superman was, but it won't fit if they deviate from it. The Superman animated series has a great theme too and while there may have been some inspiration from the Williams theme it really stands alone.

A new movie theme should be able to do the same if the composer and director are careful enough with it.

It seems like a good idea. A fresh start all round by totally severing any links with the previous films. Looking forward to see what Zimmer can do with a new epic theme. (Although saying that, I wouldn't mind the odd hint of the William's theme here and there in the new flick, ala Star Trek).

Superman Doomsday theme was quite a good one btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HrFrAspWF8

em, why wouldn't they include the superman theme? Surely he'll just do a rendition of it, or just license the song?

If they're trying to create their own Superman continuity they may not want to create associations with the older series.

I'm all for this, Williams' theme is iconic, but Returns was practially a remake of the original, which i adore but this is a new franchise, should be new everything.

Look what Zimmer did for the Batman theme, they could have used Danny Elfmans theme but it was better to go with something completely different, and the Jokers theme from TDK is an amazing piece of work. Zimmer can be hit and miss but when he hits hes one of the best composers around.

I love William's score but, to be honest, I'll only ever associate it with Christopher Reeve's Superman. When I hear the song I see Reeves not Routh or whoever the new Supes will be.

I welcome a new theme for a new Superman, and I'm especially comfortable knowing that Zimmer will be working on it.
