Wednesday evening rush-hour Dart commuters were delayed for half an hour or more because of an "incident" at Tara Street station. It seems that someone accidentally fell onto the tracks! This is by no means surprising as Tara Street Station, as well as being the busiest in Dublin, also has some of the narrowest platforms in places and is on a curve. Clearly an accident waiting to happen. You would think, therefore, that Iarnrod Eireann would ensure that these potentially dangerous platforms were kept free of compacted snow and ice at all times by scraping, gritting and salting as appropriate to prevent such a thing occurring. You might think wrong!

Without getting into a debate, I'm thinking the interconnector would remove this pain. I've seen pics from Connolly this evening and Tara can get very crowded.

A girl I know was on a train at Tara St when this happened this evening, apparently the guy fell down between the train and the platform, she was wondering if anyone knew if he was ok?

Another lethal practice at Tara St is when a shorter south bound Dart pulls into the station. People will rush to get to the doors of the last car which usually comes to a halt at anything up to 50 Meters down the platform from the top of the escalator. This subject also came up on a recent thread

the rate the snow was falling today it was impossible to keep it snow free
I believe the person is fine a bit shock up. today was an exceptional day this is not a problem in Tara even at peak times

At my local station, and the one I go to, there was no attempt to keep the platforms clear of snow. I honestly think they should close the booking office for 20 mins to clear the snow if that what it takes...Very poor in my opinion.

Haven't heard of this happening before

They could fit screen doors to keep people from falling but they could still fall down the gap when boarding if that's what happened

I was there about 4pm yesterday at the Northbound platform, people wouldn't move along the platform with the result that the stairs leading up to the platform became backed up resulting in people nearest the platfrom being pushed from behind as panicky people on the steps pushed to get through to their train, also a reason the platform became so jammed was because a lot of people were not necessarily getting the train arriving at the platform e.g. some people were waiting for the train to Maynooth and two trains arrived before that train for Drogheda and Malahide respectively, thus blocking passengers for those first two trains.
