I think good place to put this,if i put in wrong place sorry and could you move to correct place thanks :)

If you see motorists in distress, stop and help or check if they need to ring someone.
Hearing about two so far fatalities due to the weather, think about helping if you can even by ringing to say break down on certain road if you cant stop.:)

That sounds serious, anymore details? It doesn't sound as if they just broke down or got stuck.

I was thinking the same myself and i have kept my eyes open the last couple of days.

Its all well and good stopping to help but people need to be extra careful if standing around on the roads in these conditions. You could very easily end up dead if someone loses control.

Heard on the news this eve that a farmer somewhere in the south of the country (sorry only heard part of the report) froze to death, but appears he was out checking livestock when it happened. But good advice caseyann, we know we would appreciate it if it was us!
Worth remembering also if you do need to make a journey in this weather, throw a flask of something warm, sensible boots and some spare heavy coats into the car, just in case!!! Mother always harped on about this - but i went and learned the hard way anyway!!!! All i could hear as i shivered down that dark country lane (in high heels and a dress of course) was her voice whispering "i told you so!" Thank god the mobile was working!

Old man went missing two days ago,and died in his car :(
The other man died out checking live stock.

A PENSIONER who was missing for two days was discovered dead in his car not far from his home yesterday amid fears he may have died from exposure after getting disoriented.

Also goes for people sitting behind/driving around vehicles that are stuck due to lack of grip. Witnessed people driving onto the footpath to avoid a bus that got stuck while changing lanes earlier, just leaving the mess for everyone behind to worry about. A few hands and a few minutes had the bus back on it's way, seriously selfish behavior! As for people who drive on after seeing someone suffer an accident without asking to help, scum of the earth!

And FFS .. don't sit in your car if you break down on the Hard Shoulder.

Saw a car yesterday at the side of the Autobahn with 4 lads inside the car smoking cigarettes with the windows open.

Lethal as before i've seen a truck with a blown tyre having to pull into the hard shoulder, not out of choice but to come to a controlled stop.

Don't stop on the motorway (unless traffic is stationary anyway) as you may do more harm than good.

Unfortunately not many people willing to help on local roads. They are usually afraid to stop and they nearly always think that "he gets road assistance" anyway soon.

i usually always stop and ask if they need any help if i see a car parked with hazards on and man outside. If no hazards, then it depends where the car is parked as its very rare when no hazards on broken car. And i´m all prepared, toolbox always in my car + my own together put medical box + heavy duty load strap, so can tow even a bus

I'll stop to help anyone, except the muppets who overtake yo uon ice and end up in the ditch around the next corner.

I help them by smiling at them while I pass and giving them an encouraging "V" for victory sign.

    Terrible advice.
So instead of one car and one person/group of people for ther rest of the road users (that can actually handle driving in a little bit of snow) to avoid, there will now be two or more cars and two or more groups of people.

Similar to rubbernecking at an accident, stopping in these conditions unnescessarily is dangerous.

I helped a neighbour with jumping his car today.
Should swing things in my favour with Santa :)

I picked up two lads who'd run out of petrol on the M6 this morning.

Why would it be harder to avoid 2 cars instead of 1?

You would just leave someone involved in an accident to the elements?

If you mum crashed her car, would you drive on by, safe in the knowledge that by not helping her you are making the situation less dangerous???

My mobile went dead in work yesterday before I headed home. If I'd gotten stuck on the return trip I was bolloxed. It was after midnight so I'd feck all chance of someone stopping to help if I did have to stop.

Happened to me last night, had to drive out and got stuck in a ditch. :( Three cars passed me and one car with four men in it , luckily someone came out of their house shovel and helped me out. I wasnt that stuck, all it took was five mins to help.
Thank you very much to that good Samaritan.:) I will send them something in the post for thanks.:)

Athlone bypass yesterday,(I think - maybe around loughrea. Was a long drive) only as I passed I saw the car down the embankment. There was another car stopped, guy seemed to be just strolling talking on his phone, so I assumed everything was all right.

I was thinking of stopping, but there was snow/ice on the hard shoulder. Made me wonder was that how the guy wound up down the embankment!
