Just spotted this interesting news item on the CityLink site:

    http://www.citylink.ie/news1110.php ...
The new look “Citylink Commuter” offers fantastic value for money fares for Single, Return, 10 Journey and Annual Tax Saver tickets as well as special Student Fares all backed up by a new faster on-line booking system.

I was just about to post asking if they're just taking the p*ss with their ticket naming. Looked back at their site, and saw an ad for this page:

    http://www.citylink.ie/Events-Taxsaver.php
Commuters can save up to 51% by purchasing a Citylink Taxsaver Commuter Ticket. Taxsaver tickets are not subject to Income tax, PRSI or the Income Levy. Therefore commuters paying the high rate of tax can save 41% plus 8% PRSI plus 2% Income levy, a total of 51 %. Employers who purchase Taxsaver tickets for their employees can save up to 10.75% in PRSI.
The Taxsaver scheme was introduced in 2000 to encourage the use of public transport by reducing the cost to the commuter. You can avail of Taxsaver commuter tickets if you travel to work by public transport.
Tax Saver Commuter Tickets are available on all our services and can be purchased by contacting our Customer Service Team at Lo Call 1850 282808 or info@citylink.ie
Taxsaver tickets must be purchased from Citylink by Employers on behalf of their employees.

Is this something new? Or old news?

Only state-owned companies are mentioned on taxsaver.ie though.

Are any other private companies offering TaxSaver tix?

    Enquiring minds ...

I understand Taxsaver is an Irish Rail (?) brand. However, essentially the same tax regime exists for all operators.

Swords Express and Matthews Coaches offer it too.

I exchanged e-mails with the Taxsaver office. While they came up with the name first, registering it as a brand was problematic, so they are being philosophical about other operators using it.

Of course, there might be sense in offering a one-stop shop service where employers can obtain Swords Express-Luas or Matthews+Dublin Bus and the likes.

once you get a monthly (or longer) public transport ticket from your employer and they deduct the cost from your pay then the scheme applies.

CIÉ just got a bit of publicity out there for the scheme first, and they probably carry a vast majority of commuters.

If you're self employed then the scheme doesn't apply.

This says it applies to trains, trams busses and ferries
