McCaw nabs the top individual accolade in world rugby for the third time He's the first player to win it more than once and also consecutively. Leaves me all the more irked that BOD didn't get it the previous year. But can McCaw be regarded as the best ever?

its completley biased at this stage tbh.

  • Even though he deserved it, the award has become meaningless. A hollow victory I feel.

He's probably bored getting it too.

    Forward passes?
Stephen Ferris scored a beaut try off a forward pass against New Zealand two weekends ago.

McCaw had a phenomenal season. Deserves the plaudits and recognition for it for sure but I'd wager it measures sweet eff all compared to those victories he led his team to.

Titanic won Best Picture for flips sake and the bloody Klaxons won the Mercury Music Prize. Awards are meaningless.

Whatever about last year, he definitely deserved it this year.

History says it will all go wrong next year. :pac:

Well done to him this year though! Deserved accolade although personally I would have given it to Muliana or Pocock. The list of nominees was very strong this year.

Thought it was pretty strong last year also, if not BOD then Fourie du Preez should have got it in 2009.

Robbie Deans or Guy Novès should have won coach of the year. Graham Henry isn't deserving of being a 4 time winner of that accolade. Other coaches would have won multiple world cups with the squad he has available to him.

No question that Richie McCaw should be player of the year, but Du Preez or Brian O'Driscoll should absolutely have won last year.

I believe BOD not getting it last year has devalued the award.

It would take some coach to win multiple world cups in only one attempt.

I'm still too bitter to feel anything other than indifference to this award. Maybe that was BO'Ds last chance to get it, and I think his decade as one of the modern legends of the game and the sensational year he had and everything he achieved, it was a disgrace not to give it to him, but to give it to McCaw for the second time, who had a distinctly average year and already had one....

Fair play he deserved it this year, but I think Trojan said it best ... last seasons shambles has devalued the award greatly in my eyes..
