Disappointing ebay experiences.

Don't you just hate it? You order something from ebay and wait excitedly for it, rushing to check the post everyday. When it finally arrives you rip the wrapping off and find...... that it is not as described.

Last week I ordered a set of film poster cards. The condition was described as mint and the seller had emailed me pictures of these brand-new, really brilliant looking, mint-condition cards. I ripped down all of the posters on one wall to make space for them. Then they arrived. They don't look the same as in the photos and they certainly aren't mint. They are bent in several places, all of them have staple holes in the corners, one even still has a staple hanging out of it. Some of them have scuff marks.

The problem is what to do in a situation like this. I don't want to return them for a refund because I still want them. But I'm disappointed that the seller had the cheek to describe them as mint condition and send me photos of brand-new ones when these have clearly been ill-used by a previous owner. She had 6 sets of these cards listed for sale so I wonder if maybe she sent me photos of a new set then sent me an old set. But I wonder if it's even worth asking for a replacement in a situation like this because if she sends another set they may be just as damaged. I've emailed her to say that the condition isn't as described but tbh I'm not sure quite what I want her to do about it. She even had the cheek to email me to remind me to leave her good feedback!

If you could post a link to the eBay item , it would help .

Make sure that you receive your positive feedback , before you leave feedback for her .

Then you can safely leave negative / neutral feedback - something like this :

'' Item not as described - very dissappointed - Would not recommend this seller ''

Next time , before you buy on eBay , check the sellers feedback and look through all negative received . This should help you decide whether to trade or not .

    Sorry to hear that :S

First off, more than likely that email reminder for leaving feedback was an automated email.

Do as you're doing, let her know you're not happy and what she's going to do to rectify the situation.

    What were the cards?

The seller can't leave negative feedback for him, so he has no worries about leaving it for them.

There's not a lot else you can do in a situation like this. Your options are put up with it, or return for a refund. Returning will cost you money, and depending on how much they cost in the first place, it might not be worth bothering with.

i HAVE BOUGHT OVER 100 ITEMS FROM EBAY IN THE PAST TWO YEARS - ONLY ONCE HAD A PROBLEM - GOT THE WRONG ITEM - EMAILED THE SELLER AND THEY SENT A NEW ITEM AND ASKED ME TO GIVE THE WRONG ONE TO A CHARITY SHOP. COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY WITH THE SELLER IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM BEFORE YOU LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.

+1 - The biggest gripe for the professional sellers on ebay is that buyers leave negatives before contacting them to try and resolve the problem.

Been using ebay for 6 years, had both positive and negative experiences through the years. Its easy to get caught out. But the more you use it the easier it is to get things right.

Well, here's what happened. I emailed the seller and explained the problem, she emailed me back, very apologetic and said that it must have been a "mistake" that the item was listed as mint, as she always writes a full account of any damage in the listing. She asked how much money I wanted her to refund me and I said $5, to which she agreed and refunded me and we left each other good feedback.

However, before this was resolved I'd only pulled the wad of cards out of the packaging and glanced at them before putting them back in the envelope and going to email her. When it was resolved and I got them out to put on my wall, I realised that they were more damaged than I had thought. The packaging she'd mailed them in wasn't sufficient and they seem to have been folded pretty much in half during transit. I've ironed them but can't get the bend out. Also I see now that the scuff marks are worse than I had thought, one of the cards even has a patch missing, almost a hole.

My own stupid fault I suppose, I should have inspected them absolutely thoroughly before emailing her. Anyway, I can't go back on the agreement now I know, but these ones are in a state and don't look good on the wall so I want to buy another set. (She has another 6 sets for sale.)

The problem is, they are still listed as "mint" condition and I doubt that they are, I don't want a repeat performance. I've emailed her to ask for sure if they really are mint and to give me a list of any damage they may have. So now I await her reply.

These are the cards I am talking about:

Well, I just heard back from her. After I complained previously about the listing stating "mint condition" and the cards being in poor condition, you would think that she would be more careful about being honest when describing the condition of her items. But she has kept the words "mint condition" in the listing for other sets of the cards this whole time, and now when I email her to check the condition before buying any more, she admits that she doesn't have any in mint condition. She says that she is finally going to change the description in the listing.
